2017 Peugeot 3008 confirmed for Australia, due Q1 next year

The all-new 2017 Peugeot 3008 SUV will hit Australian showrooms early next year, the French brand has confirmed.

Peugeot has also confirmed the new 3008 will be offered with its latest Euro 6 powertrains, with a 1.6-litre turbo petrol and a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel available on “selected models”, though outputs are yet to be revealed.

While still unconfirmed, the inclusion of the 2.0-litre turbo diesel could mean the recently-revealed sporty 3008 GT variant could also be coming to Australia.

Both engines will be paired to a six-speed automatic transmission co-developed with Japanese company Aisin.

The 3008 will also feature the company’s new second-generation i-Cockpit interior design, which Peugeot says “puts within reach everything drivers need to access, all of it contained within a high-tech, high-quality niche”.

Underpinning the new 3008 is the PSA group’s EMP2 platform, which already provides the basis of the 308 hatch, along with Citroen’s C4 Picasso and Grand C4 Picasso MPVs.

Kai Bruesewitz, Peugeot Australia’s general manager, said the 3008 is just one of the several new and refreshed models the brand will be launching Down Under in 2017.

“The launch of the 3008 will coincide with a significant refocus and refresh of the brand and model line-up in Australia,” he said.

“The remainder of 2016 will be dedicated to preparing our business for the launch of two all-new models and a refresh to a further two model lines in 2017.”

With the 3008 pitched as an all-new offering, this leaves room for another new model and two additional updated models next year – one of which is likely to be the facelifted 2008 SUV.

The second all-new model could be the next-generation 5008 which was spied in March, sporting a more SUV-like design compared to the current-generation MPV that is no longer sold in Australia.

As far as the second refreshed model line goes, both the 208 and 508 have been recently facelifted, while the current-generation 308 is only in its second year – which only leaves the Mitsubishi ASX-based 4008 SUV that hasn’t received a significant update since its launch in 2012.

Details of the new 3008’s pricing, model line-up and sale date will be released closer to the model’s 2017 launch, so stay tuned for an update.
