Five stars cars and safer cars really do save lives. 1500 people in Australia are killed every year, and many tens of thousands are seriously injured. That comes at a cost to the Australian community of between 20 and 30 billion dollars a year. If we can put everybody in a safe car, we can dramatically reduce the cost of that to the Australian economy, and of course, reduce the terrible trauma to families and the emotion the grief and the horror of having someone killed or injured in a car crash.

ACAP is a test of excellence and our tests are at a much higher level than government regulation tests. ACAP's credibility comes from the fact that it is a truly independent organization, independent from the vehicle manufacturer to the average power buyer, or [xx] are saying, they're a box on four wheels, and so the only way you can buy that out is to perform a series of crashes to put it through series of crash test, which we do here at Crash Land.

Three basic tests that NCAP does are called an offset frontal where part of the car hits a barrier at 64 kilometers per hour. The side impact test where a trolley is run into the side of the car at 50 kilometers an hour. There's also an optional test at the manufacturer's discretion if they wish to attain a five star level, with the vehicle slid sideways into a pole, which is a very severe test.

put several days to prepare the vehicle. Not only the signage on the vehicle, of course, but you've got four crash-test dummies inside. The two adult dummies, and the two child dummies. The adult dummies Particularly a very complex things and little out of calibration before they get to the stage with there is lots of preparation for the virtual test.

The whole the crisis is very not just the lead up to it, but during the actual crash event itself, there's thousands of readings taken and recorded.

Well, the car car is going to come down this runway, tied to this cable that's underneath the floor here. And by the time it gets to here it's going to be doing exactly 64 kilometers per hour,
which is the test speed, and
it's going to collide with this the having minimum and break off Basically, all that happens faster than you can blink.

The five star standard from NCAP is the gold standard for crash protection. Most of the five star cars that we're testing these days, basically the driver would walk away. Ultimately, some crashes are not avoidable, no matter how good a driver you are, so it comes down to so how well a legal you're in has been engineered.

It can be difference between life and death, or being seriously injured, or walking away. most people don't appreciate how severe these crash tests are. In order to get five stars, the new Elantra had to perform exceptionally well in the frontal offset test, the side impact test, and the pole test.

It's very important to offer world's best safety standards across all our vehicles. I'm extremely pleased that anyone purchasing a new Elantra has the best possible chance of walking away in the event of a crash. despite the damage that you have seen the car has maintained very good structural integrity.

The structural deformation at the front of the vehicle is evidence of the absorption of the crash energy before it was able to get to the passengers. The passenger zone is virtually undamaged, which is what counts if you're in that crash. What's really pleasing about the all new Elantra is that it is yet another Hyundai that makes five star safety affordable.
