Subaru built its first car (Subaru 1500) in 1954 having spent the previous decade as the major supplier of aircraft to the Japanese airforce during World War II. Today the Japanese company is best known for its emphasis on All-Wheel-Drive technology, using that as a differentiating factor from other Japanese manufacturers. Subaru gained prominence in Australia with cars such as the Impreza WRX and Forester & the only rear-wheel-drive BRZ which have earned the company a well deserved reputation for reliability and performance. Subaru currently sells seven models in Australia including the Liberty, Outback, Impreza, XV, WRX, WRX STI and Forester. Subaru is Australia's 10th best-selling car maker.

2017 Subaru Impreza 2.0i Premium review: Long-term report three – interior

We’re back in the 2017 Subaru Impreza 2.0i Premium, this time taking a look at the interior. Yet another area where I think the Subie excels. First impressions are great. A large 8.0-inch screen finished with piano black accents sits prominently in the middle of the dash, soft-touch plastics, chrome accents and faux carbon-fibre are scattered around the cockpit, and it becomes clear that Subaru has gone to great lengths to make the interior of the Impreza feel more upmarket than it really is...

How to drive fast in a Subaru WRX STI

Patience. That’s a concept I don’t explore too often, but being on a racetrack and in the driver’s seat of a Subaru WRX STI with a professional rally driver next to me, patience was very much a virtue I dearly lacked. Many, many years ago I owned a Subaru WRX...

In the latest update of our ongoing report on the 2017 Subaru Impreza 2.0i Premium, we take a deep dive into its infotainment system. Now, this is an area of the Impreza that has received a considerable amount of praise from most who have got behind the wheel over the past weeks. Design-wise, the Subaru’s 8...

How to drive fast in a Subaru WRX STI

Patience. That’s a concept Alborz doesn't explore too often, but being on a racetrack and in the driver’s seat of a Subaru WRX STI with a professional rally driver next to him, patience was very much a virtue he dearly lacked. So, he set out to learn some patience, and hopefully improve his lap times as a result!  ...

2018 Subaru Ascent revealed in LA

Subaru has revealed its all-new Ascent three-row SUV at the 2017 Los Angeles motor show.

2018 Subaru WRX review

See the full article here. It's 25 years since Japan gave birth to a turbocharged, all-wheel-drive sedan that would become a cult performance car. A classic, even. That would make perfect timing for the introduction of a next-generation Subaru WRX, though with the next all-new model not due until 2019 we’ll have to make do with an MY18 update...

2017 Subaru XV 2.0i-S review

See the full article here. The 2017 Subaru XV range has arrived on sale in a segment that looks a helluva lot different to how it did when the first version launched. Let's wind back the clock. The year was 2012, and Subaru rolled the dice on a pumped up version of the Impreza hatch with some body cladding, funky colours and chunky wheels...

What happens when the two cars you're looking at are the 2017 Subaru BRZ and 2017 Toyota 86 GT? Which do you pick then? We hit the road, and the track, to find out...

2017 Subaru XV 2.0i v Mazda CX-3 sTouring AWD comparison

There’s no doubt whatsoever that the small SUV segment is the hottest battle ground in Australia right now – certainly in terms of the market volume that is rushing to it in large numbers. Some manufacturers are so enamoured with the concept, they even have two entrants in the segment – think Audi Q2 and Q3 for example, which effectively sit in very similar parts of the market even though the marketing blurb will claim otherwise...

The Subaru Viziv Performance STI Concept has been unveiled at the 2018 Tokyo Auto Salon. 2017 Subaru Impreza 2.0i-S (AWD) review

I'm gazing into the cloud of water gushing from underneath the 18-wheeler in front of me. The window wipers are vigorously spreading the mud over my windscreen, while I fight the steering wheel to keep the car from aquaplaning. An opportunity strikes as the lane besides me clears for a moment. I take the chance and pin my foot hard up against the firewall...

2017 Subaru Impreza 2.0i (AWD) review

I previously owned a 2013 Subaru BRZ with manual transmission. I owned it for the last three years and loved it. I was quite happy about everything with the stock model and didn't make any modifications. Now, the time has come, and I had to replace my car with something practical for my baby. I sold my BRZ for $26,000 and didn't want to spend extra money to buy a new car...

2005 Subaru Liberty 2.5i Safety review

Ah, the Liberty. In my mind, the forgotten hero of the Subaru range. At least until 2009, when this fantastic fourth generation was retired in favour of the hideous land-yacht that is the fifth generation. Anyway, back to the car in question. I love this car. I really, really do...

2004 Subaru Forester X review

I bought this car because I lost my car in my divorce settlement and I couldn't fit the kids on a bicycle. It's a great little car with lots of advantages. It has a boot, for example, which means I don't need to strap my shopping bags to the roof. It also has seats, which means I don't need to strap my kids to the roof...
