2015 Volkswagen Passat 132TSI review
After owning a 2009 TDI Golf and then the slightly larger 2013 TDI 2.0 Jetta I decided to upgrade yet again in April 2016 and purchased an ex-demo 132TSI Passat (2015 build) with a little over 400km on the clock.
- Generous interior room & comfort level, Very economical fuel economy, Extra long list of safety features, Great multimedia entertainment system, Solidly built, extra large boot space & very quiet
- Exterior mirrors not electric
With just over 14,000km now travelled locally plus, three interstate trips, we're both absolutely thrilled with the comfort, quietness, feel and the economy. The fuel economy of the 1.8-litre turbo engine reminds me of the diesel economy from our TDI Jetta. We average 6.2 litres per 100km on the country trips and around 8.5L/100km around the suburbs nearer home. The engine is also super quiet and gear changes hardly noticeable.
Inside the touchscreen multimedia system is very comprehensive and the Bluetooth works great. The boot space is phenomenal and the generous rear seating space has pleasantly surprised. Any drive is totally enjoyable both in the city and over long distances thanks to the firm but comfortable seats.
The first service was carried out without issue or any problems. All in all, we are very satisfied with the car, running costs, the raft of safety features and the CD sound system is excellent.
The paintwork quality looks and feels superior to our 2009 Golf but equal to our previous Jetta which I found to be of high quality.
The tyres (Continental) were not as quiet as the Pirelli tyres on the Jetta – the service department even agreed that the Pirellis gave a quieter ride. I also was surprised to find the external mirrors were not electric; this seems to me at odds with the high number of quality appointments throughout the rest of the car – it seemed like an oversight but really, probably the only point of dissatisfaction from our purchase.
With several trips to Melbourne and a couple of trips down the Great Ocean Road, holidays have been so much more enjoyable since our Passat purchase. The comfort levels are remarkable over longer journeys leaving us no longer tired after hours of driving between destinations. Otherwise we both feel this has been the best car we have ever had the pleasure to drive and own.
