2009 FORD TERRITORY
Bought it ex Ford, 1 year old with 10,000kms. We saved over $15K on the new price. For that you get a lot of features and a big, honest car. Looked at a Kluger and a Commodore wagon and the Territory was the best value and the best to drive.
- Great to drive, engine, comfort, ease of use in town
- 'Premium' sound system, average build quality
The Territory is fantastic to drive with well weighted steering and neutral handling making it great fun on open roads. Around town you never get the sense you're driving a 2-tonne SUV; the turning circle is great and it's easy to park.
The straight six-cylinder engine is a highlight. It has lots of torque down low and is very smooth with the 6-speed auto. Fuel consumption around town is surprisingly good for a 190kW petrol SUV of its size. We don't drive for economy but get around 13L/100km, much better than many in V6 Klugers or Maxda CX-9s.
Inside there's plenty of room all around and lots of little, well thought-out storage compartments. It's very comfortable in all seats.
A disappointment is the stereo. It's average in terms of sound quality, which is a shame because a quiet car like this could really benefit from a good sound system. The build quality is also average compared to Japanese offerings. No rattles though.
We've had the ball joints and rear control arms replaced under warranty, both known [suspension] issues which were fixed for free. Other than that it's been great in the 18 months and 25,000km we've had it.
