2007 Nissan Tiida ST-L
The old Tiida, for Nissan it was an unfortunate mistake to change the name from Pulsar. Most people didn't like the look of it, yet it was a well built vehicle and reliability was outstanding.
- Reliability
- performance
- interior quality for its segment, good fuel economy
- May be a tad ugly front on
We bought our Tiida ST-L brand new in 2007 and sold it in 2011 for a Holden Cruze SRiV, and that was a huge mistake. Mechanical defects and ongoing problems with the Holden, but not so for the little Nissan.
It had the basics to keep you comfortable, quality seats and soft-touch plastics on the doors, a huge boot and a cracker of an engine. Plenty of power when the foot was down, very economical, though the fuel gauge was also a bit funny (not sure why).
Cruise control, power mirrors and windows, and ABS helped us enjoy the car but the lack of stability control saw it criticised especially up until the last Series 3 before it was ditched. We didn't have to replaced the tyres until 65,000km and I think that was the same for the pads and rotors.
I believe it achieved fuel consumption of about 9.0L/100km or so around town but for the 1.8-litre engine on a regular trip return Sydney to Melbourne I recall a figure of 7.2L/100km. Good for then, but probably not so now.
The paint (black metallic) wasn't perfect, with even a good polish or slight cut not getting it smooth. Old neighbours had a Nissan Murano in the same colour and said the quality was on the average side too.
In conclusion, the Tiida was a cracker of a car, though a lot of Aussie's didn't see it that way.
