  • Silky smooth and powerful V6 engine; spacious interior; Toyota-like reliability
  • Lackluster steering feel; floaty ride; cheap feeling interior plastics

The 2005 Hyundai Sonata was excellent value when new, and represents even better value as a used car as prices continue to drop.

A clean, modern design allows for class-leading interior space and comfort, yet the fit and finish of the interior plastics are not up to Japanese standards.

The 3.3-litre V6 is silky smooth and has excellent performance, but fuel economy will suffer with a heavy right foot. Handling is let down by steering which lacks feel, yet most drivers will appreciate the lightness and tight turning circle.

Overall a smooth, competent drive but if you want excitement look elsewhere.
