The tradie’s truck. It has to be tough as nails, go anywhere, carry anything, and cart everyone, but now, there’s an economic downturn so, there’s going to be a budget constraint.Fuel economy comes to the fore, reliability, servicing, ease of use, etc, all play their part. If you’re never going to go off-road with it, then two-wheel drive is all you need.

Capable off road, comfortable on road the Navara really does set itself apart from most four-wheel drive utilities that seem to be compromised one way or the other - or neither way at all.

As Australians, we’re proud to claim the utility as our own, just look at the population attending the Deni Ute Muster each year. It’s a vehicle firmly ingrained in our culture, and as it was Ford who first provided us with a coupé-utility that could “take the pigs to market Saturday and the Missus to church on Sunday”, - an analogy where you certainly don’t want to mince your words - what better ute to review than this one.

Appleby’s M5 Ute at Deni Muster

Of all the utes to attend Deni this weekend, one in particular stood out from the crowd for being… well, unique.

m5_ute_001.jpg

Professional Golfer Stuart Appleby grew up in country Victoria and has always had a passion for cars, in particular he’s an avid BMW fan, favouring the M5. But a country boy at heart, the love of utes never quite waned and with no M5 ute available in BMW’s showroom, Stuart did the next best thing - build his own.

CarAdvice does the Deni Ute Muster

This weekend saw Deniliquin, situated in the Southern Riverina region of NSW, host the annual “Play on the Plains Festival & World Record Ute Muster”.

What is perhaps the most unique and quintessentially Australian event on the CarAdvice calendar, we couldn’t turn up in anything less than one of Australia’s finest.

Now given this was a Holden sponsored event, we thought we’d throw a cat among the pigeons and arrive front and centre compliments of FPV’s stonking new F6 Ute, which turned quite a few heads in CarAdvice livery (we thought it looked pretty specky too).

2009 Isuzu D-MAX - First Steer

A third of the way between Brisbane and the Gold Coast exists a place called Sirromet Winery, one of QLD’s better known producers of fine wine, and a careful play on words of the name of the owner, one T. E. Morris!

What an excellent location to launch a new brand and model into the Australian market.

Isuzu Ute Australia is a Japanese company wholly owned by Mitsubishi Corporation (note - different to Mitsubishi Motors) and for many years Isuzu had been selling a ute, which till very recently was called Holden Rodeo.

CarAdvice to attend Deni Ute Muster

It’s that time of year again when we pull on our Blunnies and Bluey, strap in the Esky full of Bundy and head north for the Deni Ute Muster.

This year marks a decade since the inaugural Muster kicked off the celebration of Australia’s favourite vehicle and the annual pilgrimage is always a highlight on the CarAdvice calendar.

Heckling is something usually reserved for amateur night at the comedy club, unless of course you happen to be driving a SsangYong Sports for the week. While stopped at a set of Melbourne traffic lights I actually had a bloke yell from an adjacent construction site “That looks like half a funking rhino”. I couldn’t help but wonder which half.

2008 Nissan Navara King-Cab First Steer

Nissan is now in a position to take the sales game to its major competitors in the strong selling light truck market, having added a single cab-chassis and a versatile King-Cab version of its strong selling Navara range.

Since its launch back in 2005 the Spanish-built Navara Dual Cab has been the only weapon in Nissan’s armoury in the strong light truck, or utility, market.

Volkswagen Robust still testing in USA

Our Photographers caught Volkswagen’s upcoming pickup in America yesterday – following several conflicting reports about the car’s future. The most important being that VW won’t be selling the truck in Europe (or Australia).

Volkswagen Robust

The original plan was to build the car for Europe and other markets in Hannover, Germany, but according to VW, the increasing cost of petrol has meant the overall conditions for such a pick-up has “radically changed.
