Toyota HiLux WorkMate model upgrade

Already leading the race in new vehicle sales year-to-date, Toyota is now rolling out the new member of the HiLux family, the WorkMate, for the first time with automatic transmission. When we decided to run two of Australia’s favourite sport utes head-to-head this week, it was bound to cause some heated discussion around the CarAdvice office. Despite the pair of pick-ups having a slightly different application, they are still essentially the same high powered, tail happy tradie trucks that offer something just a bit above the boring old workhorse - real horsepower.

The TRD Aurion entry will be far from standard, using a scaled-down body shell of the new TRD Aurion and a 1.2-litre engine - and no that’s not a typo.

Very much a family affair, fueled by the bitter rivalry between the two manufacturers, competition between the Mazda3 MPS and TRD Aurion entries is heating up.
