Mini, Rolls-Royce collaboration set to go ahead

Rolls-Royce is reportedly planning a hybrid version of its all-new Ghost sedan.

The hybrid Ghost, itself based on BMW’s 7 Series platform, will rely heavily on the parent company’s hybrid drivetrain for motivation.

Rolls-Royce has confirmed to CarAdvice Australian pricing for its latest creation, the Ghost.

With first customer cars to arrive in June next year, Rolls-Royce has set pricing at A$695,000 plus options. From the 24 expressions of interest so far, orders are being taken, and specifications will be locked in from November for an April build.

Rolls-Royce has showcased its new Ghost in a very hands-on video with product manager, Dan Balmer, prior to the car’s official launch at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show.

With peak power of 420kW and 780Nm, the Ghost will reach 100km/h in just 4.9 seconds while maintaining the luxury of its larger siblings.

Rolls-Royce and Mini, polar opposites of the BMW Group, could be collaborating on a new special “luxury” edition Mini.

The move has said to have come about due to Rolls-Royce’s slowing recession sales and the parent company’s desire to distribute some of the luxury marque’s class across the rest of its line-up.
