French engineering is often scoffed at as an oxymoron, though for the life of me I can’t think why, I mean they gave us the Airbus A380, the Viaduc de Millau Bridge, the Eiffel Tower, and the Louvre. I could go on for hours, but this is a car review after all, and what I’m really trying to impress here is that it doesn’t take a pastry chef to see that the French have a certain je ne sais quoi for flare, innovation and the dare to be different.

Volvo up for sale?

Sources inside Ford have told Reuters that the blue oval has had initial exploratory talks with Renault to sell Volvo. The news comes amid previous claims from Ford that it has no intentions of off-loading its Swedish brand.

Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on which side of the coin you look at) Volvo fans can rest easy, as initial talks have broken down due to price differences.

2008 Renault Laguna First Steer

Like all things French the all-new Renault Laguna is a little idiosyncratic – but also like all things European these days it’s being launched on the Australian market with diesel power first – petrol will come later.
