Holden Vectra 2008 London Motorshow

The Holden Vectra-equivalent which will join the saloon and estate variants when it arrives in Europe in 2009.

Holden has previously refused to comment regarding the potential return of the Vectra to Australia, however it would seem likely as the logical rival to the new Mazda6 and Ford Mondeo.

Like the saloon, the Insignia fastback will be available with either front- or all-wheel drive and a remarkable seven engines to choose from.

These include four petrol engines ranging from a 4-cylinder 86kW unit to a 194kW V6 and three new 2.0-litre direct-injection diesels ranging from 82 to 120kW.

The AWD is fitted with the FlexRide mechatronic chassis system with its Adaptive Stability Technology, but is also optional for the FWD models.

Toyota Aygo Crazy 2008 London Motorshow

Hmm… the Toyota Aygo Crazy, not sure if it makes us go crazy, but it certainly looks like a lot of fun.
Although Toyota has no intentions of building this car (why not?), the company says the concept is actually “built to be driven, (and) not just for show”.
Sitting underneath the bonnet, actually, sitting in the rear of the vehicle is a 1.8-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that produces an enormous 147kW (200hp) @ 6700rpm while peak torque of 240Nm @ 3400rpm. Not bad for such a tiny car!

The car is driven via the rear-wheels through a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Why Toyota would make a car this good, then decide not to build it is truly confusing.

Suzuki A-star concept 2008 London Motorshow

Although not confirmed for Australia yet, the A-star concept is the ideal candidate for a new micro-car.

Suzuki will build the A-star, rumoured to be the new Suzuki Alto, in India.

According to Suzuki’s global press release, the new car will be exported to Europe and beyond, which might potentially include Australia.

The old Alto came to Australia in late 1995 powered by a 1.0-litre engine (39kW - 72Nm) with a starting price of $12,990. It left Australian shores 3 years following a price cut to just $9,990.

Subaru Impreza WRX STI 380S concept 2008 London Motorshow

If you thought 221kW in the STi was good, wait till you meet the WRX STI 380S, yes, the 380 stands for horsepower, which roughly translates to about 280kW of power!

Subaru says there are no current plans for a production run but following the London motorshow, if the interest is high, it may come out as a special edition before the year’s end.

The car is put together by Prodrive, who have rebuilt the entire engine which includes a bigger turbocharger and a more thoroughly tuned engine control unit.

Apart from that, the WRX STI 380S also comes with a body kit and upgraded suspension and exhaust system.

More importantly, it regains the blue and gold status, riding on gold (or silver) 18×8.5 ins BBS alloy wheels with 245/40 tires.
