Melbourne Motor Show: Peugeot stand

In yet another world first for Melbourne, Peugeot has released their stunning 308 Touring at this year’s show. Presented in a deep blood red, the 308 exemplifies European class proving that family wagons need not be square and boring.

Melbourne Motor Show: Peugeot Stand

Peugeot’s entire range is on show and with cars this photogenic, it’s really worth your time in passing.

Melbourne Motor Show: FIAT stand

FIAT’s baby 500 (Cinquecento) and Corolla-sized Ritmo have made their stunning entrance in to the hearts and minds of the Australian motoring public with a typically classy and clean cut Italian display at this year’s Melbourne International Motor Show.

Melbourne Motor Show: FIAT Gallery

Show casing one of each 500 model, several Puntos and the two of the all-new Ritmos, the FIAT stand is worth a visit… especially for red blooded males (hint hint).

Melbourne Motor Show: FPV stand

Ford’s new FG series has not gone unrewarded by the FPV treatment with GT and F6 models among the highlights on display at the FPV stand.

Although the bonnet release mechanisms have been removed from the vehicles (possibly to protect the still unreleased kilowatt ratings), the FPV range certainly looks the goods both inside and out. The crew at CarAdvice are gagging to get behind the wheel for a road test, hopefully very soon.

Melbourne Motor Show: BMW 1 Series Coupé

BMW’s best 1 Series yet, the Coupé is a noticeable presence at this year’s Melbourne International Motor Show. The two-plus-two-seater is based on the rear wheel drive 1 Series Hatch but is longer by some 121mm (4360mm). A real Coupé (Astra I’m looking at you) with a proper boot, the 1 Series is also 13mm lower that its’ hatch back cousin.

Melbourne Motor Show: BMW 1 Series Coupe and Convertible

Although previously released at the Frankfurt Motor Show, this is our first taste of the 1 Series Coupé and I must say our predilections from photos and sneak peeks have been fully satisfied by seeing it in the flesh.

Melbourne Motor Show: BMW X6

BMW’s sleek X6 4WD (which was unveiled at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show) is stunningly displayed at the northern end of the Motor Show, taking pride of place at the BMW stand.

Based on the X5’s 4WD underpinnings, the X6 aims to combine a sporty drive with SUV practicality and boasts a muscular stance and high rear-end, more reminiscent of cars from the Dakar Rally.

Melbourne Motor Show: Land Rover LRX Concept

When the LRX cross-coupe concept made its global debut at the Detroit Motor Show this year it was met with almost celebrity applause signaling a new path for Land Rover and their image as a ‘big’ car company.

Smaller and lighter than current models the LRX still shows signs of its’ heritage with such signature external design features such as the clamshell bonnet, floating roof and wheels-at-each-corner stance being retained.

Melbourne Motor Show: Renault Koleos

SUV with a French accent

If you want proof that the car industry is a truly global business look no further than the Renault Koleos. It’s Renault’s first ever purpose-built SUV unless you count some six-wheel voitures the French maker used to build in the 1920s for duties on the sands of colonial Africa. (We’ll do Renault a favour by momentarily forgetting the undistinguished Megane Scenic RX-4, which t strictly speaking wasa jacked up mini people mover)

Melbourne Motor Show: Honda Accord

The eighth generation Accord is a Thai built offering featuring Honda’s “three engines under one bonnet” technology which sets out to challenge the perception of V6 engines being gas guzzlers.

Melbourne Motor Show: Honda Accord

The new Accord uses a 3.5-litre V6 featuring what Honda calls Variable Cylinder Management. It allows running on six, four or three cylinders. Under acceleration or high speed driving all six clinders fire but in cruising or low speed urban driving it drops back to four or three. Honda says the transition is seamless and unnoticable to the driver. The benefits are lower fuel consumption and emissions.

Melbourne Motor Show: Overfinch Bespoke Vehicles

Making its Australian Motor Show debut is Overfinch Bespoke Vehicles, often referred to as the AMG of Range Rover’s, it has showcased two of its specially prepped SUV’s at the Melbourne International Motor Show.

Melbourne Motor Show: Overfinch Bespoke Vehicles

The first model based on the Range Rover Sport is the Overfinch Supercharged SuperSport, featuring an uprated supercharged petrol V8 engine producing 325kW of power, resulting in a 0-100km/h time of just 6.4 seconds.

Melbourne Motor Show: Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart

Poised to sit above the VR-X and below the earth shattering goodness of the Evo X, the Ralliart Lancer gives buyers a rally heritage drive in a stunning looking package.

Melbourne Motor Show: Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart

Already impressive, even in standard guise, the new Ralliart Lancer is sure to be an extra special hit with buyers wanting that little bit more from their ride.

Melbourne Motor Show: Audi Cross Coupe

Audi is well known for their stellar line-ups at International Motor Shows and Melbourne is no exception.

Melbourne Motor Show: Audi Cross Coupe

Featuring the Cross Coupe Quattro concept, new RS6 Avant, TTS Coupe, and elegant A3 Cabriolet models, the Audi stand is well in line with the company’s brand value of sporty, progressive and sophisticated examples of modern motoring.
