Volkswagen Scirocco 2008 Geneva Motor Show

The Scirocco marks a new era in Volkswagen design, completely disassociated from typical VW design trademarks.
Derived from the Iroc concept, CarAdvice has previously produced an artists impression of the production Scirocco, however it appears VW has significantly modified the production model from the concept.

Available in a variety of performance derivatives, the Scirocco will feature Volkswagen’s 2.0 TSI engine, along with a turbocharged GTi model. A flagship V6 model is also a possibility, with the Scirocco offered with both front-wheel and all-wheel drive versions.

Volvo XC60 2008 Geneva Motor Show

In a previous life, Volvo held passenger safety above all facets of car design, and as a result its range of vehicles had an uncanny resemblance to a tissue box on wheels.

Along with the extensive standard safety features found in all Volvo vehicles, the new XC60 introduces the City Safety system.

Toyota iQ 2008 Geneva Motor Show

The world’s most successful manufacturer, has come out with an ultra-compact iQ concept. Toyota believes the iQ represents the needs of inner-city motorists looking for a compact, reliable, short and environmentally friendly vehicle.
Best suited to the small streets of Europe, the iQ was developed at Toyota’s advanced European design studio in the south of France. Less than three meters in length (770mm shorter than the Yaris and nearly 1M shorter than the new Mazda2), the IQ appears small from the outside, but it can seat four adults (or three adults and luggage space).

The exterior is nothing over the top, meaning there is a good chance Toyota will bring out a production model in the future, from the photos it’s obvious the width of the vehicle is a great contrast with its short length.

Tata Nano 2008 Geneva Motor Show

A rear-mounted 623cc two-cylinder 25kW engine, an overall length of 3.1m, a four-speed gearbox and manual steering may not be the sort of specification CarAdvice readers drool over, but imagine you’re an Indian office worker sick of riding a scooter to work in the monsoon and taking your whole family out on it on weekends.
For the record, the body is sheet metal - it was going to be plastic - and air conditioning and an airbag will be optional on the luxury version.

The Nano promises a revolution on Indian streets, still the domain of the ox-cart, the bicycle and the motor scooter in many parts of the country. Initial production will be 250,000 a year but Tata hopes to eventually sell about 1 million Nanos a year in India - that’s about as many cars as the entire Indian market buys now. But in a country where per capita wealth has doubled since 2000 - and is still growing - that doesn’t seem an outlandish boast.
