Okay, so I was a member of a chess club when I was younger. No big deal, I just made sure I didn’t tell anybody about it - especially girls. This club on the other hand is one that all members aren’t afraid of boasting about.

The title says it all – the Supercar Club.

Hummer might be up for sale, but when it comes to putting on a show, no one else can quite do it in such Hummer style.

Hummer sales decline

Hummer sales have started to decline worldwide, leading to suggestions that GM might drop the brand altogether. The main cause is fuel prices, with some analysts estimating it could hit $2/litre by year’s end.

To add to Hummer’s worries, GM CEO Rick Wagoner has been slowly downplaying Hummer’s role at GM. One American analyst went as far as to say “Hummer is the fat man in the lifeboat who might be tossed overboard”.

With news that GM has shelved its large car rear-wheel-drive projects (apart from the Commodore/Ute), it was only a matter of time before the company begun downsizing the rest of the line up, starting with trucks and SUVs.

 A press release just issued by GM says the company is focusing on smaller cars, beginning with an all-new Chevrolet compact car. GM has also given the green light for production funding for the petrol-electric car, the Chevrolet Volt.

Last year saw Australians buy more cars than ever. The sales figures went Toyota (22.5 per cent market share), Holden (14.0 per cent) and Ford (10.3 per cent). Logically, the dollars spent advertising these brands should correlate to sales success, but such is the beauty of the advertising world that the figures hardly interact.

Figures released today by Nielsen media research show that new car advertising is on the rise, with an 8% overall increase in car manufacturer spending. Out of the top 50 advertisers for 2007, eight were car manufacturers, but not in the order expected.

Expected to run on E85 Biofuel, the Hummer HX offers a similar deal to the Jeep Wrangler with its open-air driving experience. The HX has a pair of removable roof panels above the driver and front passenger and a modular, removable rear roof assembly enabling a quick conversion from closed vehicle to open vehicle SUT.

Official images of the Hummer H3T pick-up have found their way onto the web ahead of its debut next month at the Chicago Auto Show.

Based on the H3 SUV, the H3T should also receive the same 5.3L V8 alongside the standard 3.7L Atlas straight five engine.

General Motors has released official images of the Hummer HX Concept - actually they were apparently leaked, although that word is being used far too liberally lately.

The Hummer certainly has come a long way since the tank-sized H1 yet has obviously lost none of its appeal, and if this latest concept is any indication, future models will continue the trend.
