Ford says Diesel/LPG not Hybrid is future

Ford Motor Company Australia is in no hurry to join its rivals Toyota and GM Holden in rushing down the hybrid power path, preferring instead to stick with its proven LPG and diesel as alternative fuels.

At a monthly media briefing in Melbourne today (Thursday) Vice President Marketing and Sales, Mark Winslow, said Ford was ‘comfortable’ with its current strategy, which focuses on the E-Gas variant of the Ford Falcon and increased diesel power.

NSW Government asks for hybrid Commodores

With the recent announcement that Holden is only two years away from producing hybrid and diesel Commodores, NSW Premier Morris Iemma has thrown his backing behind the project, urging both Ford and Holden to produce a hybrid sedan, with a promise to purchase the vehicles for the NSW Government fleet.

Currently 355 hybrid vehicles exist in the NSW Government fleet, all of which are either Prius or Civic Hybrids. The QLD government also recently purchased 50 hybrid Civics.

Ford has announced that the car, code named FG01, will be rolled out of the Ford Performance Racing workshops in Broadmeadows for the Midas 400 race weekend at Sandown.

Falcon XR6 Turbo launch control demo

In this video we see a performance demonstration of the launch control feature on the new Ford Falcon XR6 Turbo manual model.

The launch control system works by holding the revs at 3500rpm and deactivating two of the cylinders which are instead used to spool the turbo to reduce lag at take-off.
