2008 Picnic at Hanging Rock Car Show
February 4, 2008 by Matt Brogan
The Macedon Ranges and District Motor Club will be staging its 21st Annual Picnic at Hanging Rock this coming Sunday the 10th February.
One of the largest of its kind, the event is open to all veteran, vintage, classic and special interest cars, motorcycles and pedal-powered vehicles with last year’s show attracting more than 2,500 entrants as well as more than 10,000 spectators.
The Picnic includes a number of free displays and attractions suitable for all ages, including miniature steam train rides, rocker cover races, games for children, an animal farm as well as a range of presentations from our sponsors.
Held at the world famous Hanging Rock Reserve near Woodend, Victoria (approximately 50 minutes north of Melbourne) visitors are able to climb the ‘Rock’ as well as enjoy a family picnic and great day out.
This year one of the club member’s cars – a 1928 Graham-Paige – has been selected as the Event Presentation Vehicle and will be on display near the main stage.
Matt from CarAdvice will be at the show (hopefully with his car) so keep an eye out for the logo’ed Black & Orange shirt and come say hi.
Entry to the reserve for this event is $20 per car, $5 for motorcycles and $50 for busses – entry fees are payable at the gates. Gates open from 8am.
For more information please contact The Macedon Ranges and District Motor Club.

Looks like fun Matt……huge show……….we think that Big Als Poker Run is big,but 2500 entrants? Do they have trophies? Hate to be a judge!
I guess after your busy past weeks you haven’t got to cleaning it yet. Id give you a hand but she’s a bit far to travel to do a detail on the Monaro………..
Plenty of pics of everything else interesting would be good though.
Hey BM,
You’re right again… so little time so much to do! The individual car clubs usually host their own Show ‘n’ Shine within the event, but the major sponsors (I think it is Lumley’s Special Vehicles this year) and the host club do have their own trophies and awards for extra special vehicles.
It truly is a huge show, pics do it no justice, far too much scale, you’d need a helicopter. It takes a good 4-6 hours to appreciate, longer if you get chatting.
Any one in VIC interested in anything a little retro really should take the kids and head up, it’s a brilliant day out.
Matt.
There is something like this in Brisbane too where all classic car clubs come together and hold a major trip in a convoy through the streets. Aparently they’ll be using Milton road – I don’t know how safe that would be in a Vintage car.
There is also a smaller “rally” on Australia Day, they meet up at Ormiston State School on Australia Day morning and they branch out into 2 convoys and meet up at the end at Alex Hills hotel.
Hi Oz,
Do you know any more details of this event (first one)? Would be great to get in touch with the organisers. What time of the year is it held?
Thanks Matt.
I know it’s this year, but there are alot of clubs there, you’d need to find some classic car club in Brisbane.
It was advertised at the Australia Day Rally, telling owners to bring there cars and show the public how many classics are still around.
Thanks Oz, we’ll look in to it.
i think picnic at hanging rock is really cool and good for people who are looking for antic cars
