andrew- your tuned car wont have leather and air con, It would be striped out shell nothing but the necessities. the veyron is luxury performance. and a tuned car after a few thousand miles will have considerably more wear on it that the veyron. they had to make special tires just for it. you cant just go buy 250mph car tires.

give me 2.4 million and I’d have several cars tuned to out run this.

Fifth gear (top gears rivals) do a test on the veyron with tiff driving and he was extremely impressed, he has driven F1 cars and other very quick cars so it is a good track car as well.
Maybe we will see some R8 diesel tech going into the Veyron itis the same owners?

Frugal One – yes you might be correct that the ultima is quicker on the track but the Veyron wasn’t built to race, it was an engineering exercise by VW. It cost £5Million to build each Veyron that are sold for £800K. It a collectors item.

Oz, yes I do, I mistook your remark, sorry. – I thought the Veyron was a brilliant engineering exercise, and am glad they are having another go.

Maybe because the Yanks made a staight line thing that went a tiny bit faster after 14 tries and lucking the right phase of the moon, they are going to ram one up them

Can’t wait to see what they do. VW seem to love stitching really good engines together to make REALLY good engines.

I reckon they’ll go diesel for this one, the V10 Touareg engine will be converted to common rail and become the W20, should be good for 1450nm or so. Will only need a Powerglide 2 speed box

ACFSambo, it’s impossible to have 750hp out of an engine that has 300nm – hp is a function of torque.

all they are focusing on is power. a quote from Carrol Shelby “horsepower sells cars, torque wins races”, i would prefer a car with only 300HP and 750NM torque than one with 750HP and 300NM torque for the better acceleration. Also weight (the veyron is about 2 tonnes) and handeling, if i bought a car for that much it better be able to go round a corner.
