2008 Subaru Impreza WRX STi pricing announced
Subaru Australia has just announced prices for the MY08 Impreza WRX STi at the Brisbane International Motor Show. Due for release mid February, the STi will be available in two different guises, the standard WRX STi and the top of the range WRX STi spec.R.
The entry level starts from $59,990 and the spec R. which receives Recaro seats and BBS rims retails for $64,990.
Nick Senior, Managing Director, Subaru Australia said “The new Impreza WRX STi retains its fully exceptional performance credentials and gains a new level of comfort and refinement.”
Official power figures put the car at 221kW and 407Nm of torque with 0-100km/h times coming in at 5.2 seconds, a 0.2 second improvement over the old one.
The 2.5-litre engine is essentially unchanged, Subaru has added dual active valve control system, modified the turbo, changed the way the intercooler works for better efficiency and moved the engine lower in the engine bay - giving a better centre of gravity and hence better handling.
The MY08 STi receives the Subaru-Intelligent (SI)-Drive system, the first appearance in the Impreza range. The system allows the driver to switch between Intelligent, Sports or Sports Sharp.
More details and specifications expected in the next few days.

The looks growing on mean, and it is a mean ass/arse vehicle, problem is that its a bit like a Skyline, you are guilty by association with the doof-doof-doof bogan owners….

“Fully Exceptional performance credentials” … “Exceptional” would have been suffice.
Why didnt he just say its fully sick..
Bloody awesome car though!

They have been smart about the pricing when the word was that is was going to be $72K. I think the standard STi will be popular but then again, the Spec R with Recaros and the wheel package is a bargain at $5K

As expected, even with the option pack (Spec R) its below Audi S3 pricing.
Flying High will no doubt jump in and say he was correct on pricing despite his initial post with the dramatic “72k asking price”.. which turns out was.. the onroad asking price, which further turned out to be the onroad asking price with the option pack (Spec R).
So pricing only increased $3k, and an option pack was added.

and i must add, even $64990 + onroads is not 72K onroad (except perhaps if you live in WA).

OK you lot. Fair Dinkum some of you are daft.
In my previous post I stated it was 72K for the Spec R On Road. Turns out it is about 71155 on road
Here is the breakdown in NSW
$64990 base price inc LCT (Luxury Car Tax)
$2995 dealer delivery (a wash + 150 point check + wheel alignment)
$3170 for On Roads (Rego + Green Slip + Stamp Duty)
Total = $71155

DAMN!!! Why WA has to be so expensive everytime?
Just throwing this in the air, but can we import the 2ltr version from japan and make it legal here?
(I prefer that one better because the redline is at 8000rpm :D)

Flying high, i think your dealer delivery is a little overstated. Sydney city subaru quotes $1795 not 2995.(still not cheap though) and sincewhen did dealer delivery involve a wheel alignment (they dont even do that!!)
So the total should be just under 70K with enough change for a big mac and a subaru baseball cap (to be turned backwards of course)

My prices come Scuderia Veloce Subaru. You cannot by the WRX STI from Sydney City Subaru. In Sydney you have two choices, SVM Subaru in Lindfield and Tynan Motors in Sutherland.
With regards to what the over inflated dealer delivery price includes. refer to my post above. Horse Shit I know, but this is the price I was quoted. I said it was a bull shit price, but that is just the way it is.
If you get offered a new WRX STI for under 71155 in Sydney, please let us all know.

By the way, before anybody else comes on here flapping their jaw about what they *think* is right or wrong in terms of price, waltz on down to your local STI Suby dealer, get a quote and THEN post a comment here on the price.
How you can come here faffing about price when I have been to the dealership, driven the car and got the pricing in black and white is beyond me. It IS the price - if you dont like it, get a Golf. :-)

Flying High:
Please, look at your original sensationalist post in the entry from a few days ago.
You kept correcting it to disguise that ‘72k for an STi’ was an overstatement.
It’s for a model with expensive options, and its also the onroad price.. which you had to correct AFTER I pulled you up about the 72k.
It’s still just an incremental increase over the old model.
As someone stated above the dealer delivery price you have posted is a little over the top (it’s $1795 here in Darwin).
Would you say the Audi RS4 is a 200k car? I wouldn’t, even though if you option it up and after onroads it will get close. It’s a 165k car.
(Report)
February 1st, 2008 at 4:46 pm
And I suppose you went where exactly to get this delivery price? The closest STi dealership to Darwin is Townsville
The 2007 STI was 62K **on the road**. How you can call 9-10K odd an incremental price increase is beyond me.
At no point did I try and make an overstatement. I provided as much info as possible for the intelligent readers of this forum who wish to be informed about the REAL cost of purchasing this car. I dont know why you would take exception to this.
The fact is if you want an STi Spec R your wallet will be about 72K lighter. This is a undeniable. You cannot walk into a dealership and offer them $64990 and expect to drive away with a new STI Spec R.
Like I said, go to the dealership and get the price and then come here and do some talking
(Report)

You are doing it again - choosing your words carefully, when they were not what you originally stated at all.
The 2007 STi was a little over $56K. The new one is a little under $60K. That sounds like an incremental price increase to me. You keep talking about the Spec R, and your original “OMG its 72k post” said nothing about it being the option-pack variant nor that it included onroads. Even then it fell well short of being correct.
I took exception to it simply because it was sensationalist rubbish designed to make it sound like it was in a whole new pricing category (i.e. where the Audi A3 3.2 failed a few years ago and needed a dramatic price cut).
Please, look at your original post.. you only corrected yourself after it was pointed out to you that you were quoting unannounced prices.
The reality was a marginal price increase of between 6 and 7% and the addition of a variant with expensive options where there was NO comparable option pack in the old model.

FH you’re clutching at straws. As Adam has posted above, look at the base model RRP - not much more than the outgoing model.
As for the price itself, Subaru Australia should be ashamed of themselves. The product offering in terms of technology has changed marginally over the previous model meanwhile the Aussie dollar has gone through the roof, yet we are still paying MORE than the (already overpriced compared to other countries) previous model. Obscene price gouging of the highest order.
Screw the inqest into petrol prices - what about the ACCC look at the pricing of new vehicles in this country? I’m willing to bet when the import duty on cars is finally removed completely the prices don’t go down at all.
/end rant.

CapnCrunch
The Base Model STI is 67K odd drive away. This is a 5K price increase on the equivalent model last year. I suppose 5K is not that much to the very well funded average STi purchaser. Sheesh! :-)
Adam
I am not choosing any words carefully - sorry if the harsh reality of the cost of this car is offensive to you. If you have not realised, 72K for a car which is based on a car in it simplest form (base model Impreza) sells for about 27K drive away. You were already questioning the cost of the STI in the other forum where it clearly stated that it was the Spec R On Road. Have you actually got a point or are you choosing to be blisfully ignorant and remain in denial.
If you are so bloody smart tell us what the price is then to own one of these machines? I am certain that the humidity in Darwin is making your brain go soft. :-)

Hey Adam - I just noticed your post in the last forum talking about pricing (Evo STI Grudge Match) - where you were also the expert on pricing. Can you finally admit that you were mistaken and provide a token apology?
See the difference is that when I turn up to a Subaru dealership they actually let me drive the car and give me prices. Maybe if you asked you would also receive…

Well these results are somewhat contradictory to the track race in Japan. At any rate, I have driven the STi and it is an awesome power pack that will do your licence in 0-100 in nothing flat. Guaranteed. Still, the 72K asking price is very high IMVHO.
My post following:
It’s not 72K. Someone’s making things up.

.. right.. I see where you said it was an R spec and an onroad price before I questioned you (???) You only picked it up AFTER you were questioned.
This will never end anyway.. same story with the Evo and Ralliart Lancer pricing. People already talking 70k for the Evo when they have no inside knowledge.

At the end of the day..Aussie buyers are still paying more than what they charge in Japan and anywhere else. CapnCrunch is right..given the strong Aussie dollar the price of the cars should drop not increase. It is absolutely ridiculous.

oh dear Adam. You just dont get it do you?
Seems you have never bought a new car before. You certainly have not bought a new model premium Subaru before. You are not even aware that LCT is applied to standard Dealer Delivery charges (20 percent) and to every option you take on the car. That Stamp Duty is calculated based on the LCT prices of everything you choose for the car at point of sale. Hence the high cost of on roads. Not to mention Subaru charging a ridiculous amount for delivery irrespective of the LCT in the price.
You have also still failed to point out the price you have managed to negotiate on the vehicle.
Are you aware, that in NSW at least, it will soon be ILLEGAL for a car dealer to advertise a price that does not include the on road cost? This is because the advertising a car at $64990 when the genuine cost to drive away is $71155 has been deemed misleading. These laws will also apply to other things like airplane tickets.
You keep on saying the prices were not announced. They were certainly provided to me, maybe because I am a genuine customer who had previously bought a Premium Suby and they liked me. Who knows. Point is that the cost of car I posted was the actual cost and I ensured I made that clear in a subsequent post in case of any confusion - and that had nothing to do with your ignoramus post saying I made things up. Clearly I did not make it up. You just looked like a clown making baseless comments posted without any research of any kind. Kindly do some homework before making comments like that here.
And in this post I provided everyone with the price breakdown I was given by the dealership. So, if my post is not right, tell me then what is the cost to own one??

Slammer. Good luck mate. My guess would be that after you have made your offer and walk out the door, they will be laughing their arses off and you will not be driving an STi. I suspect Suby will hold tight to their prices for at least for the next few months and at the very least until the Evos are released. This is company policy. You could be lucky with a demonstrator although I suspect these will not be available for a while yet. Currently they have STi orders right thru to April, so you will waiting a wee while to get hold of it.
I will certainly let you all know what price I finally manage to get it for but I am not holding my breath for a massive discount. They are currently offering ‘STi floor mats’ included in the price. Whoopee! :-)

thx for the intel FH. You make some valid points. what I’m banking on is the immediacy of a sale today … especially persuasive at eom when dealers are driving quotas. realise the sti is not a volume seller … but you never know … sometimes a dealer just wants your business. with the AUD being what it is, I suspect that suby will still make coin on my offer …. meaning incremental margin that they would lose if I went elsewhere. Only downside is that they would really make me wait for by car - until the sticker-price payers take delivery of their STIs.

Guys,
Paid $71,115 on the road for my STI Spec R. Test drove and bought it wednesday and drove it home the following day yesterday. Also got free window tinting and lock nuts, I think courtesy of the person who put a deposit down but had their finance fall through. Didn’t realise there were STI mats on offer though.
Car is awesome and worth every cent. 100 times better than my VY SS Commodore and other fast cars I have driven including the Golf R32, Evo 9, S15 200SX, MY02 WRX, and R33 GTR.
Got thoroughly looked after by SVM Subaru in Lindfield, including great trade-in and good deal on finance and insurance. Would highly recommend them to anyone. Talk to Paul Cester.

Andrew,
Congrats on the new car mate. No - this isn’t going to be an R32 vs STI crappy comment - over all that crap.
Nice ride - did a quick calculation of how much comprehensive insurance would be for me. I’m 30, live inner city melbourne with a flawless driving history and they want 2800 per annum.
Jesus!
My premium for the R32 is 1200 bucks which is a relative bargain in comparison…..
What are you being charged for insurance? When I used to have my subies they used to provide me with a 1000 dollar rebate. Is that deal still on?
Gee Subaru get raped by the insurance companies….Even an S3 is only 1700 per annum in comparison….

Vu - I have paid for and awaiting my sti it was just under 66k on the road & to answer your question no they wont budge on price whatsoever, Im usually someone who bargins pretty hard and they wont. All they will do is throw in tinting and floor mates but no reduction in price, subbie have never really been big on discounts (especially with STIs) which adds to their redbook value for resale. You will see 1-2k here or there once he evo is selling but I wouldnt bank on too much more.
PS, and for those that are wondering, for all the bad press about the looks, it drives like a farking dream, yes the interiors are not aligned with a 70k car, but if thats what your looking for go for a slower, less grippy R32 and you can enjoy the view of my rear end speeding away in your plush leather seats and brushed metal interior, but hey you’ll be in comfort!
