2008 Nissan Navara Outlaw D40

February 1, 2008 by Alborz Fallah

Nissan has announced plans to introduce a limited edition variant of its ever popular Navara D40 4×4 dual cab ute, dubbed the Navara Outlaw.

2008 Nissan Navara Outlaw

The limited edition is powered by the same YD25 turbo-diesel engine found in the rest of the D40 Navara range. The 2.5-litre puts out 126kW and 403Nm of torque.

Although there is no gain in performance, the limited edition Outlaw improves on features already found in the ST-X.

“The Navara Outlaw Limited Edition enhances D40’s rugged good looks and provides ute buyers with added value, an even more compelling reason to jump aboard.” said Gavin Corcoran, Nissan’s product marketing manager for SUV and commercial vehicles

It gets 17-inch alloy wheels, upgraded stereo with MP3 compatibility and an auxiliary audio jack, Bluetooth mobile connectivity, Outlaw decal, chrome side steps and bonnet protector as well as an alloy nudge bar and fog lights.

The Outlaw will set you back an additional $2,000 over the ST-X diesel, with prices starting from $47,990 for the six-speed manual and $49,990 for the five-speed automatic.

Nissan has not confirmed how many of the Outlaws will be built, but given that 2007 saw Navara 4×4 sales grow by 27 percent, if you’re after a value packed Navara, now is the time.

Nissan currently holds 22 percent of the total 4×4 ute market.

    *****PRIMO!*****

Best dang Japper Ute on the market, [sorry BigT,its the truth].

Wish they would import the Extra/King Cab seen photos the seats are decent as is the legroom.

    Cheers

    F-0

  2. Ian says:

    F-O

Kingcab D40’s should be on-sale in Australia around June, along with single cab versions.

  3. Carl says:

Totally agree F-O, Having said that Toyota didn’t really raise the bar very high in the looks department with the latest hilux! Did they…..

  4. Reckless1 says:

The most popular option will be the “Delete stupid Outlaw Sticker”

Who in their right mind would drive around with that on their car, other than Yanks. Might as well have a sticker saying “I’m a Dickhead” on the side.

  5. Andrew M says:

yeah hands down the best looker on offer in the japper utes stakes.
they are the only ones you dont look at and say WTF were they trying to achieve with styling. (oh and the ranger hasnt gone stupid with looks either but the nissan still is the better looker.

    Reckless,
that should be an option on all jap utes that put their name in big black block letters on the tail gate too.
even when nissan was rebadging XF utes they still put NISSAN across the tail gate. whats their theory with displaying the make so loudly

  6. Reckless1 says:

Yes, Andrew, I have often thought what kind of wanker drives around with Toyota or Nissan across the back, in big enough letters to be seen from Mars. But that is at least explainable by “Branding”.

To have Outlaw stuck on the side is just plain gay, in the same classless taste as the stripes down the side of the FPV Territory.

  7. Andrew M says:

it must be the flavour of the month.

the TRD hilux has the same tacky looking stickers too.

i dont think the stickers on this are as bad as the F6X or Hilux though

  8. Duck says:

    Very nice!

  9. new buyer says:

i agree the outlaw sticker definately says wanker, i would get one but that stupid yank sticker would have to go

  10. Rach says:

I think you’re all a bunch of wankers. I wish I had the money to buy one. I like the outlaw stickers and I’m not usually looking at 4WD’s but this one is VERY NICE. Hope to win lotto. It will be the first thing on my list (lol)

  11. Richo says:

The outlaw decal refers to the amount of fuel this machine uses.

  12. I HAVE ONE says:

I currently have one, and am very pleased with my purchase. Yes I left the Outlaw stickers on the side. I dont realy care what other people think of them. I didnt buy it for them. Fuel economy is better than the Toyota that I Traded. About 11 litres per 100klms. Hope to inprove on this when it has been run in.

  13. Dougie says:

I just picked my Outlaw up 4 days ago and already racked up 2000km’s. What a great ute, heaps of balls, plenty of space and getting about 11 liters per 100km’s which should get better as it runs in. Looks shit hot with the canopy to! All in all very happy. Evan had someone wave me down for a photo of it.

  14. Outlaw Red says:

I picked up mine last month, I kept the Outlaw stickers too.

its a great truck im getting about 9 l/100km nearly 900km per tank.

    currently have 3200km.

It has loads of grunt and is a great work ute and is a great family vehicle.

  15. Gavin Scotton says:

Have just purchased an outlaw and waiting for it to be delivered,Liked the look of it but hated the “Im a tool decal” but was told they could take it off so I was in. Cant wait! Great package at an affordable price, shits all over toyota and holden

  16. 1 of 150 of 600 says:

All I know is that my Black Outlaw will be one of 150 of it’s type – providing it is true what I read about them being limited edition in that there are only 600 Outlaws made | 300 Black & 300 Red | 150 Auto & 150 Manual|.

Have also added leather trim, tinted windows, hard tonneau and sunroof.

To those who oppose the decal there is a chance you could pass me on the road, just look out for the Outlaw – Limited Edition decal =P

  17. Gavin Scotton says:

Didn’t know you could get leather trim for them,if anyone has any info it would be greatly appreciated. you can email me at gtrim01@hotmail.com

I fear you may have been looking at the European site. to the best of my knowledge its an STX with a few extra bits . Nothing like the model your describing with leather interior. Nissan Aus doesnt have any intentions of letting us have anything like this truck in the trim its available in overseas.Hell they cant even organise a disk brake rear end.Yes thats standard on the US models .
Let the buyer beware. I own a Black ST-X and the paint is hopeless. I sent it in to Nissan and when they send it back its in even worse condition that it started.

  19. patrol4.2td says:

Have recently seen space/king cab navaras in storage yards just off the boat so cant be too long!! look pretty good, beats the heck out of single cab

  20. Jarrod says:

See post on d22 caradvice post. STX kingcab 2 weeks away. RX here now.

  21. Darren says:

Leather Trim? We just purchased an Outlaw on the weekend and I was asked by the dealer if we wanted leather trim. Apparently it is a standard option in Australia.

I suspect if you call your dealer they should be able to arrange this. The cost was $2900.

    Hope this helps.

  22. Mark says:

STX Extra/King Cab, come on, where are you,???????

  23. benny says:

the str shits all over the stx

  24. KRAUSEY says:

I bought the D40 STX and I wouldn’t say it is gay to have yoyr sticker but I really cant see where the extra money is mate of mine bought an outlaw for 51000 and I bought an STX from the same store his is no more comfy than mine he actually mine better

  25. KRAUSEY says:

miss a bit on that comment. I only payed 43000 for STX I just cant see the extra 8000

  26. 1 of 150 of 600 says:

Paid $50000 for my Outlaw which included: leather seats, tinted windows, tow pack, hard tonneau, tray lining, sunroof.

Not to mention the additional accessories that come standard with the Outlaw: Chrome bonnet protector, chrome side steps, six stacker cd/mp3 player, bluetooth, 17 inch alloy wheels, nudge bar and fog lights.

Oh yeah and the Outlaw Limited Edition sticker

  27. 1 of 150 of 600 says:

PS: For me it is value unquestionable.

If you are a tradie looking for second hand Navara in three years from now, I know which one I would prefer.

  28. skyfiro says:

i bought my d40 hia in fiji for 62000 all i can say is dat i love it kicks ass…on road n off road toyota no time in this life time can they make sumitng gid good

  29. Marcus says:

Just took delivery of a silver brand new 2008 D40 extra cab. I’m in love! Does anyone know of chip upgrades to increase performance? (I know it sounds wanky, but I just got out of a modified WRX – gimme a break!)

  30. joey says:

No! i do not agree for navara to in the market because it has alot of defects in the stater and even the ply wheel is broken in just 11 months, recall nissan navara around the world foryou not to suffer the same experience as with me.

  31. country utes says:

My Mum has a red outlaw: been great except for some idiot backed into the side of it. She has torno looking into a canopy for it. One side of torno fastening has become very loose.
My Brother has a black outlaw: has had the clutch redone, aircon leaks on passenger front floor, has a weird noise that dealer can’t figure out, paint is now damaged due to a trees sap on it he took ti too work (panel beater/spray painter) and there’s hardly any paint on it at all.
Dad has a white kingcab: has removed well back and put a sturdy tray on it for work purposes, back seat are not very good at all.

All 3 utes go like the clappers, all are manuals told my bro I’d buy his if he gets resprayed my 3 kids fit in great even with car seats. They are good on fuel/diesel comfy. Sticker’s aren’t that bad lol

  32. Tony says:

Just bought a STR for $32900 drive away. Cant figure why you would spend another $15000.

  33. Dave says:

Just bought one and love it! For upgrades and tech talk check out the Navara forum, http://www.navara.asia great group of guys and very helpful.
