Peugeot 308 CC earns five-star ANCAP safety rating

The Peugeot 308 CC has been awarded a five-star safety rating by the Australian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP).

Tested by its overseas affiliate Euro NCAP in left-hand drive layout, the 308 CC recorded a near-perfect 35.87 points out of 37.

The rating makes it the highest scoring ‘sports car’ available in Australia according to ANCAP, although the independent tester is yet to rate many updated models. ANCAP’s sports car list features mainly lower-price convertibles and coupes.

The vehicle tested included electronic stability program, electronic brakeforce distribution and brake assist, as well as six airbags (dual front, side and unique-to-convertible ‘side head’ bags) and extractable anti-roll bar hoops in case of a rollover.

The 308 CC scored 14.87 out of 16 in the frontal offset crash, 16 out of 16 in the side impact crash test, three bonus points for including seat belt reminders and two points for completing the optional pole test.

The vehicle scored two stars in the pedestrian protection test, offering good protection of pedestrians’ legs but providing poor protection to the heads of children and adults on the bonnet surface.

The current-model Peugeot 308 CC was introduced to Australia in 2009. Its popularity increased in 2010, with 299 sold across the past 12 months, up from 252 in 2009.

It is currently available in three variants, with prices ranging from $47,490 to $58,490.
