Audi registers SQ5, RSQ5 performance nameplates: report

Audi is seriously considering creating high-performance versions of its Q5 luxury medium SUV, having recently registered the ‘SQ5’ and ‘RSQ5’ nameplates.

US publication Car and Driver revealed the latest development out of Ingolstadt, although there is little in the way of more information about the potential vehicles.

Similar reports of a BMW X3M surfaced in August last year, which would sit beneath the larger X5M and potentially utilise the 250kW/500Nm inline six-cylinder engine from the brand’s 1 Series M Coupe.

No production plans have been confirmed from either company, but it’s encouraging news for performance enthusiasts that the Germans seemingly have some spanners in the works.
