Video: Porsche showpiece teased ahead of Detroit debut

Porsche has released a teaser video of its 2011 North American International Auto Show centrepiece just hours out from its world premiere in Detroit.

Earlier reports have suggested the brand new vehicle could be a racing hardtop version of the Porsche 918 Spyder, which was put on the stand at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show in March and given the green light for production in July.

The video seems to confirm the speculation, revealing orange Porsche racing livery on the windscreen, centrally positioned windscreen wiper, side exhaust pipes and a large rear wing.

The 2011 Detroit Auto Show marks the end of a four-year hiatus for the Stuttgart sports car manufacturer, and as the clip reveals, there will be no shortage of vehicles to see on the stand.

CarAdvice will bring you all the news from Detroit, including the unveiling of the new Porsche racer, as it happens over the coming days.
