2008 Honda Accord Melbourne debut
January 23, 2008 by George Skentzos
The 2008 Honda Accord will be unveiled to the Australian market at this year’s Melbourne International motor show.
The Thai-built Accord V6 to be launched on February 29 will boast Honda’s Variable Cylinder Management (VCM), set to prove that not all powerful V6 cars need be gas guzzlers.
The VCM engine system allows the Accord to run on all six cylinders for more spirited driving, then switches to either four or three cylinders for cruising or low-speed running.
The result is greater fuel economy and lower emissions, Honda claim the system can change between cylinder modes seamlessly and is unnoticeable to the driver.
Already on sale in the USA, buyers are reporting four-cylinder-like fuel consumption and praise the high level of fit and finish, as expected of a Honda.

I guess this will replace the standard accord we have here and the euro should be coming later on this year?
Does anyone know if we are getting a 4 cylinder version also?
Cheers
Yeah you are right Yianni. This replaces the standard accord, so the Euro will continue for now. My understanding is that only the Euro will have a 4 cylinder version.
Now this is no means officially confirmed however, there has been talk that the Euro may get a turbo 2.3L.Whether it will be standard or offered at a different trim level of the car I don’t know.
Honda should start offering diesel variants here… has anyone heard anything about one coming here?
No possibility of diesel Hondas for this part of the world until Honda’s second generation diesel engine is ready in 2009. This engine will also be sold in the US which means that it will be combined with automatic transmission, a necessity for this market as well. Here’s hoping it happens, as it’s apparently a ripper of an engine and sets a new benchmark for low diesel emissions.
Still no word of traction control or stability control
cheers
So is this the car going onto the Australian market after it was thought by some anti-american predjudice thought it’s just for the US and it’s ugly?
P.S. Any offcial information from Ford about the Orion uncoverd?
^^^I mean the relise of the new Falcon at the Melbourne motor show.
Oz, what on earth are you trying to say? Stop smoking that stuff.
Why can’t Ford and Holden produce an efficient engine like this for the falcon and commode.
Similar to what HOLDEN did with their prototype V8 Calais Wagon!
Captain Mainwaring, settle down. I don’t smoke, I just was asking if this is the car that’s going on to the Australian maket after anti-american people hated it because it looks american.
And while I was at it, I asked if there is any offcial info form Ford about the new Falcon’s launch at that same motor show.
Do I make myself clear?
