Video: 2011 Ford Ranger T6 pulls a steam locomotive

It’s not a new trick, but it’s an impressive one nonetheless.

Ford APA (Asia Pacific and Africa) has released a video of the all-new Australia-developed Ford T6 Ranger pulling a 160-tonne steam locomotive out of its shed in Victoria.

Ford says the Ranger was unmodified for the test, and relied solely on its 147kW/470Nm 3.2-litre five-cylinder diesel engine, six-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive to do the pulling.

The man featured in the clip is Ford Australia’s vehicle integration supervisor, Roger Lewis, who jokes that if you don’t have a T-class diesel-electric locomotive to tow your 160-tonne vintage train, you can always use the new Ranger.

The T6 Ranger was officially unveiled at the 2010 Australian International Motor Show last October. The all-new global utility was designed and engineered by Ford Australia and is due to enter production in Thailand around the middle of this year.
