Renault Laguna Coupe spy photos

Renault showed off the Renault Laguna sedan at last year’s Sydney Motor Show and while it’s yet to go on sale here in Australia, the French company is also working on turning the Laguna Coupé concept car shown at the Frankfurt Show into a production model.

Caught by our photographers near the Arctic Circle yesterday, the production Laguna Coupe is, unsurprisingly, a little less spectacular than what we saw in Germany.

The actual model seems to have some more emphasis on rear passenger space and cargo capacity so that it may better compete against the Mercedes CLS and all-new Volkswagen Passat CC.

Unlike the Passat and the CLS, the Laguna coupe will only come with two doors, giving the French manufacturer a little differentiation.

Engines will range from a 1.9-litre dCi to a rumoured all-new 3.0-litre V6 dCi which is expected to deliver somewhere between 171-186kW.

The Laguna Coupe is expected to go on sale in Europe by 2009 but an Australian release date remains unconfirmed.

Looks promising. I just hope Renault don’t try and sell it for $50k again, and then a year later, after a handful of sales, slash the price by $15k to put it where it should have been in the first place.

The 2-door configuration may give it a bit of an edge in a very competitive mid-size market.

This will have to be a huge improvement over its dreary 5 door liftback counterpart, which is going to be slaughtered in its home market by the stunning new Citroen C5.

Ooooohh another great big diesel engine on its way. Until 2 - 3 years ago the biggest decent diesel was BMW 3.0litres or Merc 2.7litre now the rest of the manufacutures are playing catch up due to demand of the diesel. Peugoet have there 2.7twin turbo. Vauxhall here have their crappy 3.0diesel (Ex-Isuzu).
