According to a report by Automotive News in the US, insiders – that chose not to be named – have said Porsche will reveal a Porsche 918 Spyder coupe race car at the North American International Auto Show, starting next week in Detroit.
It’ll be the first time Porsche has attended the Detroit show in four years, so it seems the company wants to make a big impact on its return appearance; a Porsche 918 Spyder coupe race car is sure to provide just that. The Porsche 918 Spyder has already kicked up quite an interest among enthusiasts and motoring fans, a race version is only going to be even more epic.
The 918 coupe race car will be based on the 918 Spyder although, engine specifications are likely to be different and it might do without the hybrid technology. The insiders have said it will feature a V8 engine of some description offering a power output of around 450kW.
There are no plans for the Porsche 918 Spyder coupe race car to go into production at this stage as the insiders have said it is not a serial model. It should be an awesome exhibition nonetheless.
We’ll keep you updated once the show starts on January 10. Porsche has also said the Porsche attendance at the show will be broadcast live through www.porsche.com/detroit.
