Tata Nano sales back on track

The 'world's cheapest car' had a bit of a hard time during November but sales have since increased over the Christmas period and are climbing back. Last month 5784 Tata Nano vehicles were sold in the car's home country of India, a massive increase compared with the 509 that were sold during November.

It may be quite a significant increase, but overall, the Tata Nano is far from returning to record levels. In the car's best month (July 2010), around 9000 Tata Nanos were sold. Last month did prove the company knows how to win back buyers however, with the help of a few incentives.

Offering deals such as the four-year warranty and the 0.99INR ($0.02) 'maintenance contract' has helped the company make an impact on the market, and perpetuate the competitive package. Tata said in a recent statement,

"Customer satisfaction studies with current Tata Nano owners indicate that over 80 percent are satisfied or very satisfied with the car, because of it being small yet spacious, its performance, maneuverability, durability, mileage and safety. Some owners have taken their Tata Nanos on country-wide trips or to altitudes like Khardungla, the world’s highest motorable road."

Tata is aiming to ramp up sales well into 2011, too, and hopes to boost production up to 15,000 units per month from March this year. It will be interesting to see how it all goes. We'll keep you updated.
