Nissan Patrol sales to surge in second half of 2021 as production ramps up after lengthy delays

Nissan Patrol customers who placed orders months ago – and are still waiting – will likely not need to wait much longer.

After months of delays, production of the Nissan Patrol is about to ramp up.

Dealers have been advised by Nissan Australia they will be receiving “strong quantities” of Patrol allocations from the factory in Japan in July and August, to help fulfil remaining back orders before summer.

In addition, Nissan dealers have been told to expect a second wave of Patrol stock throughout the rest of the year.

The surge in Nissan Patrol production is likely to see more stock in showrooms between now and December, just in time for the summer holidays.

Nissan dealers have been advised Nissan Australia has been allocated “a further increase in production” for the remainder of this year.

If the production schedules come to fruition, it will likely lead to record sales of the Nissan Patrol for this financial year, the company has forecast.

The timing couldn’t be better, given the Nissan Patrol will soon be going up against the first all-new Toyota LandCruiser in 14 years.

The 2022 Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series is due in Australian showrooms from October 2021, pending any further delays.

It will be powered initially by a twin turbo V6 diesel, though a hybrid is expected to follow in the coming years.

The twin under the skin to the Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series, the Lexus LX, is due in Australia in the first few months of next year.

It is unclear if the Lexus version will be sold locally with the twin turbo V6 petrol developed for the US and Middle East markets, or if it will share the twin turbo V6 diesel with the LandCruiser – or have the option of both.  

Meanwhile, sales of both the Nissan Patrol and Toyota LandCruiser remain strong as more Australians holiday at home in the wake of international travel restrictions during the coronavirus crisis.

Sales of the Nissan Patrol were up 22 per cent in the first six months of this year (with 1400 examples reported as sold) compared to the same period last year.

Deliveries of the Toyota LandCruiser wagon (which is predominantly 200 Series sales) were up 69 per cent, with 11,600 examples reported as sold over the same period.
