TRD Aurion on Qld Police fleet
January 21, 2008 by Karl Peskett
A new driving style is needed for some police in Queensland. The local wallopers have added a front-wheel-drive TRD Aurion to the pursuit lineup.
According to US site Autoblog, a reader just happened to be driving along, and came across this newly stickered police car. He followed it back to the station, where he queried officers about its dynamics, and whether it’s been worth having on the fleet.
Queensland police say that it’s more comfortable than local competitive offerings, yet has the same sort of punch that the V8 powered pursuit cars are reknowned for. Once the officers had adapted to the Aurion’s tendency to power understeer, they say that they’re overjoyed with the new car.
CarAdvice would love to hear what you think. Is the TRD Aurion the logical choice for a police pursuit car?

for a Lambo police car
Pablo – I don’t know the particulars of that story, good question, how did they know it was 255?
Not long ago, a BMW fled police in my area, they caught up to him several times then he’d flee again. Eventually, his engine blew (in/near Wangaratta I think) because this bloke was really hammering it. Apparently he’d done a few track days before so could certainly drive.
i thought cops coulnt pursue over 140kmh anyway??
why do they need that power?
Cops in Qld need all the help they can get from fast cars because the tight arse Govt. won’t buy a chopper like every other mainland state in Aus.
No defined speed to call off pursuits, it’s an ongoing assessment of the seriousness of the alleged crime, traffic conditions, time, location and political ramifications of grub killing themselves and everyone else. Not an easy decision.
But a vehicle capable of high bursts of speed, good handling with high visibility make the likelihoon of a pursuit less appealing to said grub!
Asian cars being Japanese only are vastly superior to Australian cars by 8 years.
WRX is the perfect car because its light, 4X4, fast, 4 door and nimble.
Fords and Holdens are just used because they get deals like new holdens for $11000aus for a new car.
In melbourne they had a HSV Clubsport with the no. Plate HSV GTO…
Yes um if this wasnt a publicity stunt then I dont know what is.
It is like the Police are encouraging people to buy a 240kw FWD car……….very dissapointed!
Hey Elitist, it would be great to have a rex as a cop car, but only for the fun you could have.
Not real practical rocking up at a pub brawl and trying to squeeze a 130kg Samoan in the back!
Duck, using your theory perhaps cops should be driving around in Smarts?
Bavarian – were are your responses on the other blog sense you hopelessly tried to fetch ‘Sideshift Cobra’ onto me but more importantly … you are not their participating with your so called world of wealth.
Supercujo – do exactly what Bavarian said and go and have a look at the our little slog out.
Turns out Cobra is nothing afterall.
Gee Bavarain … that is going to squash your aspiartions a wee bit.
Take note bloggers – Wallowing Missile is OK when the going is light but when it heats up she’s outta there quicker then a dart but then trys to participate a wee bit through others and not by the standing of her own two legs.
oh yeah Bavarian … once gain – were is Cobra’s contract for Rio Tinto because after countless requests from your offer – i still yet to site it.
Whats going on … why the delay !!
Duck – have to better then encouraging people to buy inferior quality cars with questionable brakes.
Gee … if i was highway patrolmen i would be asking myself will the brakes hold up or am i lost at the next bend.
Apart from that – the poor ‘ole tax payer being us are the ones having to fund the undobted never ending saga of mechanical and electrical failings.
Yeah sure Joe’s Garage is loving it but my concern is the unneccsary added strain on the already underfunded budget for law enforcement.
Dingo. Please keep this on topic.
If you want to discuss personal matters, there’s a forum.
Dingo, I have no firm alleigance to any make, but Toyota is currently our worst performing work vehicle in terms of saga and repair waiting time.
We have a ‘07 hilux 2wd dual cab.
The auto transmission wouldn’t go into park after less than 5000k. Sent it back to Toyota and 10 weeks later still don’t have it back.
The vehicle ran over a Toyota mechanic at the dealership when they started it in park. The car took off running over the mechanic. Very serious. All from our wonderful reliable Toyota!
^And if he does it, I hope he keeps it on one topic.
Stevo,
And no i am not saying they should drive SMARTS, they shouldnt drive a front wheel drive car that is not safe to drive!
It’s a matter of practice and experience. Having owned and driven front wheel turbo powered vehicles with horrendous torque steer, it is not nearly so bad when you expect it and have a knowledge of what it is going to do. Don’t plant your foot overtaking the first 10 minutes you’re in the car, but slowly explore the limits and the quirks of the car. In the wet front wheel drive gives you heaps of understeer that is easy to control by using the throtle. In the dry, be ready to catch it. Traction control does most of this for you today.
Karl – exactly, keep it on subject and stop with wallowing that most like to do.
Actually – i’ll better that … why don’t we keep the bullsh*t out of it and speak what is more rather to the point then wallowing with crap.
I’ll begin – the TRD Aurion is bloody damn good first effort from a recently established local TRD outlet that has managed to enhance a regular Aurion into one that has commendable pace, handling dynamics and braking capacity while being a quality, refined car let down down by a hefty price tag and torque steer.
On the other hand – HSV’s and FPV’s are long term established players and benefit from an eatablished market that are powerful and great handlers but let down by poorer quality standards hence thier often troubling nature and underdone braking capacity that so many say can be fixed by beefing up the brakes but for some reason after all these year has yet accured
So … the question is – do you take a poor quality, unreliable car that has plenty of torque and RWD cabability or a highly refined, high quality FWD with torque steer ofset by commenable power surge, handling capability and brakes that love to STOP.
Thats’ pretty much the sum of it … wouldn’t you agree !!
Or – if that is all to boring then the Holden/Ford clowns can indentify the negative issues associate with Toyota while us Toyota folks can follow suit towards Fords and Holdens.
Stevo – really … of all the thousands of examples that have been sold over the years there has been a few mishaps has there.
Well, well, well – one would have never guessed that but ha … we all know no were near as many incidences that have accured over the years compared to Holden and Ford though … haa !!
I bet the police would not have this car if it was not a total marketplace dud. Toyota can’t shift them, even with substantial discounts (losses?). Doesn’t mean that there is actually anything wrong with the car, just that nobody sees any value and wants to buy them. Qld police would have had a very good deal on this.
Dingo – really? Most everybody else can see that you got an absolute flogging on the other post, again and again and again. The worst kind of loser is one who won’t admit it! You argue like a woman (sorry BM). You rant & rave untill you realise that your beaten, then you change the subject with “I’m not gonna talk about that anymore”, without ever acknowledging your mistakes!!!!
Well, i drive one of these things and i can tell you that compared to the Typhoon we had this is crap. No room, no power and handling from the 19th century. Bring back the typhoon and ditch this rubbish along with the SS
Just for your information, Toyota’s are the most recalled cars worldwide so whats the bet thE yawnium will spend the same if not more time in the dealerships. Don’t forget the Yawnium TRD was withheld off sale before it even came on sale to the public and dont forget about those well documented prangs one of which I saw in the Melbourne CBD. Oh the fouldunnycan and the Yawnium have nothing on the Commodore. Commodore rules you hear. Australias number one individually bought vehicle in Australia for over z decade losers. This year again it will be Australia’s number one and with the immenent release of the sportswagon in Omega, SV6, Berlina, Calais, Calais V, SS and SS V just watch the increase to Commodore attributed to the Wagon. Remember in all the years gone by their have only been a Executive and Berlina Wagon with rare limited releases of SS and Calais Wagons over the years. Imagine the sales the SS and SS V wagons are going to generate if you go by the sales of the sedan and ute. It is going tobe huge. I have already puta order and deposit on one even though the drive away price is yet to be announced. A 10 grand deposit was all I needed to ensure a delivery date well ahead of those who will be put on the waiting list for months due to demand.
Oh and to all those GM and Ford haters who hate them because the come from America stop using the american term ASS which is for your information a donkey not someones posterior. Arse is the word, always has been always will be in the Australian English Language. You are hypocrits for saying the U.S. are hopeless if you still use their English.
Holden Cars, don’t forget peolpe who love Hollywood TV shows, yet hate USA.
Bret – fairdinkum pal … you are just killing me.
And better still … please o please give us bloggers a resource that shows that Toyota IS NOT selling the TRD Aurion within it’s own expectations.
I will patiently await your humble reply.
And please … don’t get me wrong or anything because i am not being mean but just rather politely requesting you ‘accurate’ source of information of which will happen to be classed as ‘more crap’ if you ‘just happen’ not be able to suply
We don’t want that now do we Mr Bret
Very true Oz, where our country is well behind the U.S. is patriosm. We are losing our unique Aussie personality with these people who use Foreign comapnies that have been in Aus only since th mid to late 60’s use foreign terms for our unique language and then have the nerve to call us Bogans. Bring back Aussie pride. General motors maybe a U.S. Company but Holden is as dinki di as Victa mowers, clothes lines, the Flight recorder black box and vegimiye just to start with. Holden was around in Aus well before Gm bought into it.
Meat Kangaroo Pies – just for info, Toyota is not the most recalled in the world but rather Ford and that said – the Crapodre just happens to be Australias most recalled toilet even though it is ’supposedly’ designed for Australian bums…. Ooouch
OH WHAT A FEELING – TOYOTA
To meat cars and Kangaroos with footballs maybe a bit of “spell check” might be in order so i can understand what the F****k you are on about!
Dingo..
Is there anything that you dont profess to be an expert at!! What the hell would you know about FPV’s!!! Its good to see you are pissing everyone off in here which seems to be the norm for you.. Maybe you should finally reallise you are a d@#khead!! Someone has just quoted you hard proven data yet you seem think you know it all and dispute it. Go and get the proof before you open your trap!! WE proved you to be an imposter elsewhere so you move here to annoy other people. No one cares what you think!! Your credibility is non existent!!
Kangaroo meat Pies – this is were people like yourself are completely lost in La La Land.
Not only has Holden been a 100% owned American company for inexcess of fifty years, but every commodore bar the VE have been nothing more then just adapted Opel designs with predominately American (or Nissan) engines.
GM doesn’t give a shit about Holden being Australian just the shear funny fact that they can continue to sell to twits by advertsing how Australian they are…. of which they are not.
For a company thay is supposedly Oz they have supplied this nation with some te worst engineered vehicles to have ever graced our roads and today is no differnt with all that Daewoo crap they import.
Were was Holden during one of our most historic Australian undertakings – The Snowy Mountain Scheme … NOT THERE but Toyota was
Who sponsors are very OWN NATIONAL SPORT … i’ll give a clue – NOT HOLDEN.
Infact … this great nation of ours is predomiantely driven my our hard working Farmers, Tradies, Industry Workers and Miners yet does Holden have the dignity to supply this great land with reputable workhorses to satisfy the requirements of such demanding tasks … once again – i will help you … NO THEY DON’T BY A LONG SHOT!!
FACTS ARE FACTS and for a so called Australian company Holden would be the company i would expect nothing less from but haa … NO SHOW
Apart from that … Ford, Toyota and Mitsubishi all manufacture hence supply employment oppurtunites in this country as much as Holden while Toyota actually participates in some of the REAL AUSTRALIA ACTIVITIES.
Again – King of the ‘outback’ of which just happpens to more Australian then anything else in this nation yet once gain – i ask the question – were is Holden because the last time i checked … it was Toyota ruling the roost by a long shot.
You see Kangaroo Meat – a bashed up, mud splashed, whipp aerialled covered 70 series Cruiser with a cattle aboard is more Australianed to me to any current product from Holden would ever be.
whatever!!.. you are not listening!! clean out your ears.. no one cares what you think!!!
So now your over here pratlling on….you certainly lost some credabilty today mate……..seeya!
Okay guys, I think this gone off topic, if u want to discuss the Toyota vs the rest of the world debate, the forum is a great place to start!
No offence taken Bret…….
Alborz, it’s an argument section ATM, GRRRR!
Ive allready emailed him to get him banned!!!!!!Cobra045 is real fired up has contacted his work site….we were happy to leave it and he starts again!
Good idea…..Alborz…..come on over Dingo…..Ill start a post just for you! Unless your not a member yet?
sorry everybody if dingo’s attitude has spilled over here.. he is causing trouble elsewhere and bags us at any opportunity even on other chats that we are not even invloved in. Our biggest mistake was getting sucked in as he doesnt stop.. like a fire the more you feed it the more it goes.. so do yourself a favour and just ignore him and if we are lucky he will go away..
And When he goes on the topic, try and make him talk to himself.
Back to the subject.
Good on Toyota for having the balls to invest money on a performance car in this nation’s struggling motor industry.
Looking at all the negativity around & the declining sales of large Aussie made cars, I commend Toyota for having a crack.
Amen Pablo… all this criticism, what people dont realise is that a genuine competitor in this area means us consumers get more features at lower prices. Aurion is a perfect example, offered class leading features and now they all match it with their special editions. Even goes onto future designs, Aurion hits 200kw barrier now Falcon will want to beat that. We benefit from Toyota taking on a declining market!
60 k plus for a police car what a rip off. Must be a Toyota lover involved with the tendering process. I bet the government pays no where near this amount.
Imagine the depreciation after 40,000klms. Nearly double the price for extra 30kws.
A 32k Aurion add a 2k supercharger and the police are chasing the wrong robbers. Perfect ripoff for Toyota diehards.
I bet Toyota undercut Ford and Holden big time on price for the kudos of having a Aurion Turd in Police livery. I bet Toyota would give these things to the police for next to nothing to enhance the Aurion image.
Toyota are too clever at marketing I tip my hat to them.
They only ask the gulliable public to pay over 60k for the TuRD which they will when they see them being used as Highway Patrol cars. A lot cheaper image building than touring car racing.
Yes Dingo and the REAL bosses have Japanese names I think u’ll find.
Yes Realcars and do you think they paid full price for the Typhoons? Or even XR8s and SS’s? Wake up mate… surely you aint that slow, from a manufacturers point of view its about some sales revenue but alot about marketing
Run Rodney run Rodney run run from the QLD Police…..
u know the rest.
They should have kept the Widebody design. Oh what a looker that was.
I repeat what a ripoff.
Get a standard Aurion fit an aftermarket supercharger and save 30k and u have created a TuRD. Oh what a feeling!!!
Sorry everybody but Cobra tried to challenge myself in a debate and came of second best.
However … that was not the real issue that came tolight but rather his considerable time at work utilised for his own personal habits because he is an office worker shuffling paper from one corner of the desk to another while some honest workers actually put in an honest days effort for an honest days pay.
For those whom are interested visit the debate under the TRD Hilux topic to draw your conclusions.
Who do you reckon our employer (Rio Tinto) will be intetested in … me at home on my days off or Cobra at work !!
Note the hours and from morning to afternoon.
Mmmm …. it aint that hard .
Bavarain – you wonna get me banned because you lost fair and square.
Then again … being a typIcal Ford/Holden bogon you would be rather used to that each time the going gets tough so call be a ban for the easy way out.
Just like you twits done against Nissan – got your arses kicked fair and squeare then protested for a ban.
Not much self worth in that …
But then again – sense Toyota can now outsell Holden and Ford combined i guess the bulk of the general public are finally drawing thier own conclusons.
HAA … LIFE IS GREAT !!
Get a Daewoo, glue on a Lion badge and sell it as a Holden but don’t tell the young lass she just drove away in a 2 star death can.
OH WHAT A HORRID FEELING … HOLDEN
Best way to rip of a customer.
Build a car and call it the billion dollar baby, source an obsolete 4 clunker and a underpowered gruff donk, forget the air conditioning, supply a bycicle tire as the spare, guarantee only 1 recall within the first 12 months but infact give notice for three then charge the same amount for an Aurion.
Best way to kill your reputation … biuld an ordinary family hack under the disguise of a billion dollar baby, advertise that it comparable to that of the worlds very best but then never come forth to support the claim.
Bestway to make people forget about the aussie 5.0 ltr.
Source a questionable large capacity donk, tell everybody it goes like the clappers, advertise it as the thunder struck car but don’t mention a word that it will rid more oil then the Exxon Valdez, slap itself silly and probably sieze just outside of warranty so you will be forced to buy another … oh yeah – and that you are Australian.
Realcaras I wont argue its pricey… as far as Im concerned so are the FPVs and HSVs. But its unique, you buy one not many other people around your neighbourhood have it (not just another FORD or HOLDEN that no-one bothers to turn their heads at), thats a good thing for most people… so this along with its features offered and refinment are strong positives.
Dingo, going off with the dogma again…CRAP! LOL.
TP “…But its unique, you buy one not many other people around your neighbourhood….” Do yourself a favour – save the massive $$$ between Sportivo and TRD as not much difference and Sportivo looks good. Well minimal difference between Aurion in base form and TRD Aurion aside from rear exhausts, grille, and the curvy front air intake makes for minimal visual differentiation. Unlike HRT. Ford lesser then HRT for differentiation.
