US Police use eBay and YouTube to catch 195MPH speeder

By Karl Peskett |

Police in the United States have used the internet to arrest a man who bragged about reaching 195mph (313km/h) in his modified Corvette.

Oklahoma man Cody Replogle, 30, posted up his car for sale on eBay, and along with it some videos to verify its performance. The car reportedly makes over 1000hp; plenty of mumbo for highway runs, if you’re that way inclined.

Replogle listed on his eBay page, “Here are two more videos of in the car that I took today. This one is [me] getting onto the highway and climbing to about 160. This one is [me] getting onto the turnpike and climing over 195+ mph. I was in 5th gear and still had some gear left.”

Unfortunately for Replogle, the cops were watching. Entitling his YouTube video “1000hp Corvette doing 195+ mph” probably wasn’t the smartest move.

The videos were pulled, Replogle didn’t meet the reserve on his car, but he did end up arrested.

“I was extremely concerned with Mr. Replogle’s reckless driving and thought the YouTube posts might encourage others to do the same thing in order to garner attention,” patrol Chief Van Guillotte said in a news release. “Our roadways are absolutely no place for this type of dangerous driving behavior or stunts.”

Some filming on a track may have prevented Replogle from ending up in hot water.

He’s not the sharpest tool in the shed is he!

  • Save It for the track

Quite similar really to some videos on various websites (some reviewing cars on public roads as well)showing loss of traction of the driving wheels….

    • Jester

      Wow, what a crime indeed.

      • Save It for the track

Yep, a burnout is a traffic offence, so is crossing double centre lines and doing u-turns over said double centre lines. All seen in reviews by ‘motoring journalists’….

Some of the stuff I’ve seen on You-Tube you wouldn’t believe. Its a wonder they don’t generate more arrests, given I’ve seen that kind of speeding in residential streets.

Hmmmm…. 313 km/h. That’s really pushing it on a public road. Lucky he doesn’t live here in Oz, they’d be strapping him into a chair and plugging it in.

Whats gonna happen to that car though. It would have to be quite some car to get to that speed on a public road.

    American, duh.

His father,Dee Replogle, an attorney at McAfee Taft in OKC must be so proud. Maybe the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
