Video: Porsche 911 GT2 RS vs Porsche 911 Carrera S comparison

By Brett Davis |

The Porsche 911 GT2 RS is the most powerful production Porsche 911 ever, but how much better than a normal Porsche 911 Carrera S could it possibly be? Autocar has that answer covered in one of the British publication’s latest comparison tests.

It’s easy to point to the GT2 RS and say it’s the better car. It is worth a lot more than the standard 911 Carrera S, but if you’re simply after a quick car to scoot around in and tour the odd mountain pass, then perhaps the normal 911 will suffice.

In the video, the GT2 RS does the 0-100km/h in just 3.7 seconds while the Carrera S doesn’t achieve it for a entire second later, doing it in 4.7 seconds. Autocar conducts various comparisons in the video including a simple drag race. The race pretty much splits the difference between the two perfectly. Take a look below, there’s also a braking and handling comparison.

Huge difference, I’d definitely spend the extra on the RS.

  • Qikturbo

If I had the money I would go for the RS,but I would definately change those wheels

  • ethan

    hmmm… interesting… i wonder how this would compare with a GTR thrown in to the mix… 0-100 in 3 seconds… that’d be interesting…

  • Car Fanatic

Ethan, the GT2 RS has lapped the Nurburgring in 7:18 seconds vs the GT/Rs 7:26.7 seconds.

The Carrera you see it pitted against in the video took 7:50 seconds. Now for the money the Nissan is amazing, but they will need a bit more engineering to topple the GT2′s posted time.

  • Car Fanatic

Just so you know the Porsche is no fluke.

It has posted faster times than the GTR at Bedford autodrome, the top gear track, autoclub speecway, Silverstone, Camden airport and Kyalami, just to name a few.

While the GTR is quicker to 100, the Porsche smashes it to 200 and 300 km/h.

You’d hope it would be much better – Porsche is also more than $500,000, while R35 is $180,000. Many more people can afford 180K, only a handful can maybe afford 500K car.

  • UMWHAT

lol, well how much faster do you want? 0-100 in 0.00 seconds??

  • MW

I would still prefer the base 911 – much easier to live with.

  • Damian

I’ll just buy an R35 and save $100k. It’ll absolutely SMASH a Carrera S and will give the 911 Turbo a run for its money… at more than half the price.

& where will it smash it..on the track where u’ll spend about 1% of ur driving time?..on a daily basis, the carrera would be more driveable, enjoyable & practical..some people just dont get it about the 911..it’s thoroughly enjoyable & rewarding at 5/10ths or 9/10ths..how bout the R35?

  • stevo

Porsche 911..surely the worlds most iconic sports car.
ferrari’s,lambo’s come & go but the 911 lives forever.

  • Car Fanatic

Steve, if you can afford the RS, you can afford to use a track as often as you like, that’s all that matters
