RTP Perth - central park level 26 :)

Yeah I'm Toyota inclined myself, but with restraint... I don't by any means see Toyota as the be all and end all of the auto industry. I have a soft spot for their older performance cars, but yeah, there's really much to be proud about anymore. My first car was a camry, but I got a new celica a couple of years ago. It's by no means a quick car, but it's not something to be ashamed of either. The engine was the first all aluminium production engine in the world if I can recall, and has one of the best power / engine weight ratios of production engines in the world (which is why it's in the elise/exige).

But yeah, if I was shopping around for a new car today, nothing of Toyota's current lineup would interest me in the slightest. They simply don't have any cars that I would be looking for. The discontinuation of their supra/mr2/celica has left a gaping hole, which hopefully will be filled up by the new FT-HS.

Johno084

Thank you for the info but gees the mind boggles

not every 18 year old is gonna have 80k in their back pocket.

and yeah you could purchase it under their business name but shit! have you seen 2 year old utes that have been used soley for for work purposes they dont look pretty

my impression of a prestige vehicle ie TRD FPV HSV SHELBY ETC is something that will hold value, more of an investment than a work hack but i could be old fashioned.

i wouldnt want say a 1 in 400 made vehicle as the grocery hack getting scraped and hammered by bad drivers and rogue shopping trolleys in carparks

TP,
from being involved with a lot of people that have bought 4X4's (including the hilux) that they buy these things and then option them with bull bars, side steps, scrub bars etc and even throw muddies on them. i can also tell you that none of them (that i can think of) were mad enough to buy a petrol version.

People that buy these put the tough gear on them so they can use them for the occasional off road excusion. i cant see too many paying extra to get the TRD version only to rip the front bar off in favour of a bull bar and scrub bars.
on the other hand those that just want the performance buy the falcon and commy sports utes. there are 2 totally different kinds of ute buyers
ones that want just performance and those that just want a 4X4 with all the tough gear on it.
so its fair enough quoting what the target group is, but you must look at what that target group is buying. yes a lot of them are buying these kind of vehicles but how many of them are a V6 variant? or how many seem to prefer the bullbar approach?

BM,
im pretty sure the pursuit and tornado do have provisions.

the towbar on the utes actually comes from underneath the vehicle and curves up. i know the pursuit has an extra little flare on the rear bar but im pretty sure they do have a little pop out section if you need.

so the sedans dont hey?

Although it's a little late (wow I didn't know this mammoth thread existed) firstly can I say hi to Cobra045, I was reading his posts and it's funny because I'm actually working in Rio Tinto Procurement at the moment, in the contracts department (they needed some law students to help out with drafting etc)

So yeah being a hard worker I've spent the last hour procrastinating and reading this thread and it's hilarious!

I have looked at procurement documents on the intranet and yeah, it does seem like Toyota is the preferred vehicle supplier for most of the Rio Tinto group companies. I've actually come across a few umbrella supply contracts for the sale of a number of hiluxes :)

On topic though... whilst being rather Toyota inclined myself, I'm not sure whether it's worth Toyota's while with this TRD hilux. I doubt there is much of a market for these sorts of cars but then that's just my opinion and Toyota marketing must have a much different one. But I supposed it is a niche, the TRD hilux will basically have no true competitors!

Opps....I didn't mean to pick on utes AndrewM...........In Utes.......I guess in general yes they are these days. Does anyone know if the Pursuit ute or Tornado even have the provision on the rear bumper section for a tow bar.....cause the current GTs don't. You have to hack a hole in the back bumper....looks a little crude!
