Toyota to unveil TRD HiLux in Brisbane
January 17, 2008 by George Skentzos
Unlike the TRD Aurion which has received a mixed reception as a result of its enormous power being sent to the wrong wheels, the TRD HiLux promises to be Toyota’s savior when it makes its debut at the Brisbane International Motor Show.
Queensland manager Sean Hanley has said the TRD HiLux has completed its final stage of testing and would begin production late February for its market debut in the second quarter of 2008.
“HiLux is now the best-selling vehicle in Queensland, so it is fitting for Queensland motorists to be the first to see the final production version of the TRD-enhanced model,” Mr Hanley said.
The standard HiLux, revered for its rugged styling, unbreakable reputation and excellent off-road credentials is sure to benefit from the transplanted supercharger coupled with its proven four-wheel drive system.
Toyota has not yet disclosed the official numbers for the supercharged TRD HiLux, although expect more than a 25 per cent gain over the standard 175kW and torque to jump to well over 400Nm.

Strike 3 – You’re Out!!!!
lexus! lexus! you are kidding! mercedes, bmw and audi blind lexus for sheer driving pleasure!
Lexus is a cheap, arrogant kind of luxury vehicle, a poor mans audi or BMW!
Mate, i am truly sick of hearing your bulls%^t! its unbelieveable!
im off before i pick the screen up and throw! ill leave it another month before i come on again!
I find it sad someone could research a dull product so much! and then deny there product doesnt have faults!
Dingo,
you were one of many that praised the TRD aurion up before it came out and said all the might of toyota and their great engineering capabilities will ensure it will not torque steer.
then what happened? your sheer trust in toyota got in the way of reality.
i think we are seeing round 2.
you are saying this thing will will engineered for 2 totally different conditions somehow.
their strike rate in engineering hasnt been that great with TRD’s here yet so dont be too sure about yourself too soon. whats the percentage strike rate for 0 out of 1??
i cant believe people have so much faith in toyota engineering that they some how think toyota will re-write the laws of physics
perhaps you should take off those rose coloured toyota glasses and see that there may actually be some
“cons” with this vehicle and not just the “pros” you are seeing
Wheelnut,
Could you please tell me what article did i ask you, when the VF Commodore is coming out.
Can you please tell me because i want to go back to the same article and i have forgoten, what it was called!
Would appreciate it, if you could tell me!
Thanks!
Duck, it was the “Latest Ford Falcon Orion Spy Shots” blog.
Just add “/3058/latest-ford-falcon-orion-spy-shots” (minus quotes) to the usual caradvice.com.au
Thanks, Watto_Cobra!
Appreciate it!
Good to see that Dingo us giving everyone else the shits!!!
Dingo.. for the record.. that crap about “Prospect” you went on about before.. that info is available to all Rio employees and any Contractor.. so again you have proved nothing. As I said before the information regarding Rio procurement strategies and policy in on the intranet, but you wil need far more access prvileges than a Contractor. But you shoudl know that. If you can find Prospect why cant you find the other information that I told you to!!
I emailed your tech services manager yesterday and he replied today.. it still appears that you either dont exist or you dont have the balls to contact him. I must say he is finding this most amusing. He also said that if you do really exist that he has narrowed you down to about one of 4 people.. But he isnt sure yet as the job position you say you do doesnt actually exist. Why dont you just end this charade!!
MMMMMMM.seems even your mates dingo are not willing to stand behind your arrogance any more!
I guess this site has to weigh up loosing 10 members that can chat about other models or 1-2 that are arrogant enough to follow but one………………It seems I know what you want!
Drive time for you! But are they sick of your crap too! We all watch you blog the same old s..t!!!!!!!!!
Own up………….we know Dingo,you are a pillow!!!!So bite it!
Tonyn………….Im real sorry you of all people had to lower your level to his!Just to try and put your point across!!!!!!!!!
Sorry babe!
Wheelnut………….hey gorgeous, don’t lower your self to his level! This guy needs serious help……..we have all ready decided on that!!!!!!!!!
Cobra045………..you know that we all ready realise he is full of it…………and apparently his other 2 followers the same I would be embarrassed to be on this site with that IQ!
Even Duck……….seems to of had enough……….and his level of tactfulness is higher than mine!!!!
AndrewM……………those glasses they think are Rose coloured………..just for Toyota,I have had re tested, apparently they were meant to compare against………Toyota only…………..so as Toyota don’t make glasses the test was null and void!hahahaha
He’s probably banned unless he comes up with alternative names and email addresses. One complete Plonker hey!
Hope you all enjoyed your Australia day.
Dingos reply to Tonyn
“And once again to prove your arrogance – not once on any oocassion have i ever stated that Toyota or any of it’s affiliated companies are faultless because they are far from it so were did you pull that from … PLEASE HIGHLIGHT were i have ever stated such a thing.”
So if that’s the case why wont you finally shut up and acknowledge that Hiluxs may indeed have a roll over problem, and there banned on Rios site in the West……come on,please!
Tonyn……I think we are all about to follow your lead, and leave him to this post !
Why continue when its like reasoning with a child !
alborz,
You know we are pretty loyal followers of this site but while you continue to let people like dingo ruin your site im going, he is just causing trouble. go look at a lexus then go look at a benz dingo, its like comparing a kia magentis with a camry!!
See you guys later!
I don’t think calling for people to be banned because they fail to agree with your particular point of view makes a lot of sense to be honest. There are going to be differences of opinion regardless.
The going thing on this site seems to be for some people to try to force their point of view on others, failing that they resort to personal attacks which escalate as evidenced in this blog. If that doesn’t work then they call for a ban!
If you don’t agree with somesone’s opinion then by all means state why you disagree and what you think. However leave the personal bulls#*t out of it.
And leaving this site because of one person’s comments seems rather immature. You could always try to – like I will do for the sake of this blog after your comments about Lexus. After a while people who seek attention get tired of talking to themselves.
What I was trying to say in the last paragraph was “You could always try to ignore them”
We need an edit button…
Dingo..
you are a complete dickhead!! for someone who is supposedly working, but manages to be here as well..
FYI 24th Jan was a staff announcemrnt for new General manager of Argyle Pink Diamonds.. 23rd was also a staff announcement for Bunder Project Manager and Exploration Executive..
now piss of and leave me alone.. I dont see you answer any of my questions!! you are full of it.. If you were so smart you wouldnt be changing air filters and oil for a living!!
alborz!!
when are you going to grow a brain and do something about this!!
Me leaving too Tonyn………there is only so much one can tolerate, and after the comment he made yesterday about me…..Quote” Bavarian – what happened retard, did you have one of your spastic fits or something. You better get some of those tegretol tablets into ‘ya before you have another fit.
I hope you didn’t scare the kids to much bouncing around on the floor with your tongue hanging out.
Uurr – yuk – you dirty old hagg.
DON’T YOU JUST HATE ME WITH A PASSION … !! ” end quote!
Seems hes taken the argument to a whole new level.
im out, but i do have to apologise to titan if i offenede you with my lexus comments, its totally my opinion! it just slipped out.
As a reader of Caradvice.com.au I thoroughly enjoy the constant supply of automative news and reviews. Perhaps like many of you, I came across this site when searching through the numerous car reviews across the interenet and found it had that little ’something’ different that made it part of my daily read. It feels as if a person is actually driving the car rather then the statistical regurgitation we so often read.
It is great the ability for comments and discussions are provided however it seems they are becomming a place for hard line opinions and insults.
If I came across this site now and witnessed the aggression and in-ability to give constructive criticism it would take the charm away without a doubt. That is a shame for hard hours spent and my guess – worlds away from the initial concept.
Dan.
Tonyn – get over yourself. You think i ruin sites like these when it is infact everysingle one of us parties participating in the is endless blog yet somehow you believe your sh8t don’t stink .
People like yourself need to take one big long hard look at themselves and start accepting that your opinions are shallow and simple minded …PERIOD !!
The fact is … you just carn’t challenge me but instead have to resort to nothing more then assumptions and a perfect example to that is your lack of ability to even answer my question not to mention the
shear arrogance with your view towards Lexus
GROW A BRAIN.
Bavarian – you are a twit … PERIOD
The thing with you freak that you abuse other bloggers everybit as much but when you are targetted yourself, you go into some wacked out induce anger mood and display your shear dumbness.
GREAT EXAMPLE – call me a WANKER (seems like an arguement to a whole new level) then get upset when i attack back.
GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER BECAUSE YOU SPEAK UTTER CRAP !!
Once again… get over yourself Bavarian and stop being an utter loser because you have been challenged.
I told you right from the very start i will challenge your crap and i have and will continue to do just that until you start speaking some sense for once and stop passing little more then wacked out Bavarian induced assumptions.
Cobra – THANKYOU VERY MUCH… wasn’t that hard was it.
If you were so smart you would’nt not have found that so challenging right from the very start.
Alborz – EXACTLY … when are you going to do something about some of these hycrocrites !!
Andrew – so far 2 of 3 have failed to answer my questions because they know as much as i that they carn’t because they spoke utter shear crap.
Now i am waiting for your response or are you going to FAIL aswell and make it 3 from 4.
So far the only respect i have gained is towards Cobra while the rest of you dropped out like losers !!
Three out of 4 is not bad going at all.
My last comment to you buddy!
Me calling you a wanker is hardly the same as a paragraph of insults you throw at me yesterday! MATE!
Quote”Bavarian – what happened retard, did you have one of your spastic fits or something. You better get some of those tegretol tablets into ‘ya before you have another fit.
I hope you didn’t scare the kids to much bouncing around on the floor with your tongue hanging out.
Uurr – yuk – you dirty old hagg.”
You speak to all women like that ?
Hope you have your inside contacts at Toyota to enable the guys to post new stories when they come to hand before other Car Sites…….just as I have in the past with Ford stuff.
Dingo – have another read of your post above. Why continue the insults?
You have clearly made your point and personal opinion quite clear. That opinion does not extend to assumptions on a persons character or ability.
Tonyn, like I said everyone has their own opinion and you are entitled to yours. Apology accepted and look forward to some constructive discussion with you in future.
Dan do you hug tree’s? Just interested thats all…..
Thankyou for the question 280zx – I can’t say I have physically hugged a tree, perhaps as a child?
Who says Toyota don’t have passion,
Look at all this passionate hating.
Bavarian – forget about trying to make a saint from yourself because you are far from it.
Do you go around calling all guys wankers … ??
If want you respect then starting respecting others !!
Get your head out of your arse and stop believing you are someone who you are not.
Oh yeah … i am not your mate.
Anthonii – judging by the declining sales and mistunes of GM and Ford – there appears to be passionate haters of Holdens and Ford these days in greater numbers then ever before.
It would be an accurate assumption to pass that most Toyota haters are diehard Holden and Ford fans but given Toyota’s destruction of thier aspirations … i can hardly blame them.
How many times do you reckon Toyota will outsell Holden and Ford combined this year … oooch !!
Dingo you seem upset tell uncle bubba whats wrong
just one quick quote mate from the first article i scoured.
it was in response to those saying the TRD would torque steer. and yes TP was in there too
Dingo Says:
June 25th, 2007 at 12:55 pm
“The TRD will be refined, well sorted and of high quality. Apart from that, it will exhibit all the traditional Toyota qualities… reliability, dependability and durability !!
What some negative individuals are not acknowledging here is that TRD and Prodrive are two very respected performance companies and thay have been engineering the TRD Aurion for quite sometime and it is my understanding that considerable amount of R&D, refinement, testing and evaluations have been invested into this project and i have absolute confidance that the TRD Aurion will be a very formiable force within it’s own rights.”
so are you going to answer the questions from others now or keep typing abusive posts?
im sure you think that if you yell louder than the others it means you win………
Amen Dingo… prity sad Ford and Holden have nowhere near the market share of Toyota given they have the MASSIVE advantage of being seen as a ‘local’ product. They must be selling absolute sh*t to not be able take advantage of that!
TP, think outside the square,
or they are just aceing the marketing
Wow,reading some of these comments have taken it of the rails more of a personal matter lol. Anyway here are some technical specs on the trd hilux.
There are two models same as the trd aurion;
4000 S donor is a sr hilux
4000 SL donor is a sr5 hilux
4000 = 4L engine size
S = supercharged
L = luxury (level 2 vehicle)
17 inch alloy wheels
Available colours: – glacier white, sterilng silver, charcoal grey, velocity red, ink
Leather shift knob with trd embossed logo
Leather seats and door trims 4000 SL only
Silver centre instrument cluster bezel
Leather steering wheel with trd embossed logo
Trd individual number plaques (build no’s)
Eaton M90 supercharger with water to air intercooler
High performance bilstein mono tube shock absorbers front and rear.Suspension height reduction. Retuned spring rate
Brakes; – front disc ventilated 338mm diameter, rear drums
5 speed auto transmission photo I have show auto, not sure about manual transmission.
Anticipated usage target market (research done by trd): -
Transporting tools / sports equipment
Towing trailer / boat
Moderate off-road driving & driving on gravel
Price unknown ???
With a sr hilux 4×4 v6 starting low to mid 40k and a sr5 hilux late 40k to early 50k i’m guessing a trd hilux will be 10 – 18k on top of sr to sr5 hilux. Time will tell closer to the market debut.
Dingo Dog
Less shifts at the mine. take a lime, some coconut, drink them both together and call me in the morning
My only question is with this vehicle and compeditors is what market is this targeting
no trady in his right mind would want to spend an estimated 70k for a vehicle to throw tools, concrete mixers or whatever in the back
pointless excercise
Bubba Ganush, going by trd information the target market is: –
*Typically male
*Younger – nearly half are aged 18 – 35 years
*Whilst there is a higher proportion of singles in the comparison to the total, two-thirds are married couples
*Greater proportion Sydney & Brisbane residents
*More likely to be in a skilled / technical of trade position
*A third of this group are current toyota drivers
*Generally a more focused consideration set, with low consideration for most brands. Much higher consideration for toyota and slightly higher for toyota.
*Higher proportion seeking to buy a 4wd or ute/van
*They are highly involved car enthusiasts
*Higher awareness of TRD amongst the hilux group
*More likely to have performed mechanical work and had modifications made to their vehicle
*Less likely to have bought a new vehicle in the past 12 months.
Finding from TRD study in Feb 2007 (Celsius Research)
edit; – *Generally a more focused consideration set, with low consideration for most brands. Much higher consideration for toyota and slightly higher for holden
Bubba .. any chance i can have a beer.
Johno – thankyou for the supplied information .. thoughly appreciated.
Enjoyed the reading and i hope you participate more regularly.
Well Im back cause he’s gone for good……….whoo hoo!
Aren’t most dressed up utes more for pose than purpose these days ………
I’m Back too…. Hi BM
Quote [BM] Aren’t most dressed up utes more for pose than purpose these days ………
As are most 4×4s.. You wouldnt wan’t to scratch that mirror finish 2-Pack duco let alone get it dirty.
arent most cars over 30K for pose?
Fancy seeing you here babe…..hahaha What timing!
I guess if nothing else its good for the tradies to tow with
{depending on the load}that way they can keep it looking trick for the weekends play ……what ever that maybe?
Opps….I didn’t mean to pick on utes AndrewM………..In Utes…….I guess in general yes they are these days. Does anyone know if the Pursuit ute or Tornado even have the provision on the rear bumper section for a tow bar…..cause the current GTs don’t. You have to hack a hole in the back bumper….looks a little crude!
Bubba any trader who can buy it under their business name (ie alot) would be interesting in this car even if it is $80k… a practical ‘performance’ SUV
Although it’s a little late (wow I didn’t know this mammoth thread existed) firstly can I say hi to Cobra045, I was reading his posts and it’s funny because I’m actually working in Rio Tinto Procurement at the moment, in the contracts department (they needed some law students to help out with drafting etc)
So yeah being a hard worker I’ve spent the last hour procrastinating and reading this thread and it’s hilarious!
I have looked at procurement documents on the intranet and yeah, it does seem like Toyota is the preferred vehicle supplier for most of the Rio Tinto group companies. I’ve actually come across a few umbrella supply contracts for the sale of a number of hiluxes :)
On topic though… whilst being rather Toyota inclined myself, I’m not sure whether it’s worth Toyota’s while with this TRD hilux. I doubt there is much of a market for these sorts of cars but then that’s just my opinion and Toyota marketing must have a much different one. But I supposed it is a niche, the TRD hilux will basically have no true competitors!
Hey ,RoFlmaTiC……….the thing is so am I as well as Cobra045……….but no one else would listen.
Anyhow, will be interested to see how many TRD make or are expecting too………and if it will continue down the performance SUV track!
BM,
im pretty sure the pursuit and tornado do have provisions.
the towbar on the utes actually comes from underneath the vehicle and curves up. i know the pursuit has an extra little flare on the rear bar but im pretty sure they do have a little pop out section if you need.
so the sedans dont hey?
TP,
from being involved with a lot of people that have bought 4X4’s (including the hilux) that they buy these things and then option them with bull bars, side steps, scrub bars etc and even throw muddies on them. i can also tell you that none of them (that i can think of) were mad enough to buy a petrol version.
People that buy these put the tough gear on them so they can use them for the occasional off road excusion. i cant see too many paying extra to get the TRD version only to rip the front bar off in favour of a bull bar and scrub bars.
on the other hand those that just want the performance buy the falcon and commy sports utes. there are 2 totally different kinds of ute buyers
ones that want just performance and those that just want a 4X4 with all the tough gear on it.
so its fair enough quoting what the target group is, but you must look at what that target group is buying. yes a lot of them are buying these kind of vehicles but how many of them are a V6 variant? or how many seem to prefer the bullbar approach?
ahhhh,really Ok.
Nope 4 doors don’t count Andrew……………
But they should! Its not like its a sports car………you know those things with ash trays in their bonnets……hahaha
Johno084
Thank you for the info but gees the mind boggles
not every 18 year old is gonna have 80k in their back pocket.
and yeah you could purchase it under their business name but shit! have you seen 2 year old utes that have been used soley for for work purposes they dont look pretty
my impression of a prestige vehicle ie TRD FPV HSV SHELBY ETC is something that will hold value, more of an investment than a work hack but i could be old fashioned.
i wouldnt want say a 1 in 400 made vehicle as the grocery hack getting scraped and hammered by bad drivers and rogue shopping trolleys in carparks
