2012 BMW M5 winter test spy shots

BMW test drivers have been out testing the upcoming and highly-anticipated 2012 BMW M5 in northern Europe. Although many parts of Europe are currently dealing with loads of snow, areas around Sweden and Norway are the known place for thorough winter testing and that's where this mule was spotted.

The car seems to feature heavily bolstered front guards, more so than the previous spy shots we've seen - our photographers confirmed they appeared more prominent than on some other mules. Other changes compared with the last spy shots we've seen include less camouflaging, revealing more of the car's body contours.

From the front it appears the new BMW M5 will feature a similarly aggressive front bumper like the new BMW 1 Series M Coupe incorporating air ducts at both corners and a sharp chin to scoop air into the radiator area.

The bonnet seems to be more aggressive than the standard BMW 5 Series, showcasing two sharp encompassing lines which blend in with the front bumper bar's aggressive formation.

One aspect to the new BMW M5 that instantly distinguishes it from the standard BMW 5 Series is the brakes. The massive cross-drilled front discs barely fit inside the wheels, leaving only just enough room for equally-capable six-piston calipers.

The back of the car is also highly recognisable as the new BMW M5, featuring traditional quad exhaust outlets submerged into an aggressive rear diffuser.

From the angle below we can see the rear guards are heavily bulged compared to the standard BMW 5 Series as well.

As far as we know, the 2012 BMW M5 is expected to debut some time next year. We'll keep you posted.
