I love Melbourne!!! There is no place like Melbourne in Australia. Perth is boring, South Australia is a ghost town, Sydney is full of Muzzas, Queensland is full of Asian tourists and NT is a backpaccker haven for Abo's. Oh yeah, The Motorshow here sucks. Lame event.

I have a 2001 E55 AMG, I can't afford a new one, but it was always nice to dream around the new ones on display. I didn't go to the Motorshow in 2008 because Mercedes-Benz weren't there, and I won't go again this year for the same reason. So the motorshow have lost a total of $19 dollars in 2008 and again this year. I think the Motorshow would be greedy exhibitors when it comes to the crunch for floor space rental so good on you Mercedes-Benz. I'm an ex-Benz technician and love the marque, apart from the W140 which did my head in. He he.

Benz is right. Their target market (old people, mostly) would not bother going to the show.

Oooh this interstate stuff is really kickin off. I lived in Mel for a year 2005/6 loved it apart from driving round that stupid grid system. Driving was a bore. Great place to live and really cosmopilitan like you say. Sydney was OK for the short visit i was there. But perth to me was real nice. Smaller city suited me just dandy. Good transport links and enaough to see. Oh fvck why did I have to come home to Pohmmieland.

Oh yeh Mercedes & car shows...why have a car show for cars you can see in the showrooms.Uh don't get it.

Gosh, I think I started all this just by saying more than one manufacturer at a time has been known to give the Perth motor show a miss. I attended Sydney's 2006 show and ours wasn't massively behind in stature.

Steve, I'm sorry I caused you to say perth is a s**t hole. I didn't mean to, really I didn't. Please advise your precise outer suburb name so I can hang some crap on that without invitation.

Food? I've eaten all around Australia, and it's no better or worse here. I know where good is and I know where bad can be found.

Couldn't agree more with u guys. I grew up in Sydney thinking Sydney was better but when house prices forced me to look else where i found out just what a little gem Melbourne is.

Unfortunatley after my seperation i've had to come back to Sydney but without being rude or putting Sydney down because if you are rich enough to live on the harbour or the anglo north shore then Sydney is great for those people but if you can only afford working class suburbs then Melbourne is a much more livable and classy city to live in.... in my humble opinion!!!!

As usual the MMS will have a huge array of both current and concept cars. Even without MB there will be plenty to see.

Again the jealousy shows. There is more to do and see in Melbourne and Victoria in general per size of state compared to all the other states. Wanna see Paris go to the Paris end of Collins street. Wanto see Italy go to Lygon Street, wanna see asia go to Victoria street Richmond. Want to see Gold go to Ballarat and surrounding area. Want to see the most famous Australian sports arena go to the MCG. Want to see the largest sporting arena in the world with a retractable roof go to Telstra dome, Wanna see Australias only grand slam tennis tournament go to Melbourne Park. All our sporting arenas are also within a 5 inute drive of the CBD and all well serviced by Public Transport. Want to see Australia most booked movie studio head down to Docklands studio.Want to come and see the most famous pub venues where all the big aussie bands start out go down to the Espie in St. Kilda. Want a break from the dreary wet weather in the northrn states come to Melbourne which has nice sunny weather 95% of the time due to our 12 year drought, Want to see little penguins (fairy penquins as known in the past. Come to Philip Island where you can get close and personal. Want to catch a great wave go down to Bells beach, want to drive along the most sensational road in Australia and one of the most famous drives in the world come down to the greatocean road. Ouch sor fingers again, more to come.

I am glad that I don't have to see 20 something classes from A-Z. Espacially the new nasty CLC (C-class sports coupe) which is a re-bodied old W203 with W204 face... Yuk.

Yeah we close at 4 so we can get to the lovely sandy beaches and enjoy the most sunny capital in the world! Who cares about the food, what are you obese and live to eat? If you want good food head down south. Get outside enjoy the sights, get on a bike, ride the cycle ways through perth, have a walk through kings park. Perth is a pretty city to look at from the south side. If you get bored of perth head to Fremantle and enjoy the cafes there. What does melbourne look like? look at a train station, look at trams (of course thats an exaggeration) but melbourne is only a really good sporting host and its the people that make it nice. To me Melbourne is the city near where my car was built at ford central, gods holy land. But yeah i do agree after about 4 to 5 perth really slows down, people head home to be with their families.

Does anyone know exactly which manufacturers are going to the MMS? The MMS this year is going to be a ford event, with holden trying to make its wagon look really really cool and toyota trying to make its 200kw V6 Camry look fancy pants. Which is a big enough reason for Merc to not care. Theres way too much competition therefore not enough coverage and they probably dont have any major new models that need to be previewed. And why would mercedes care, they sell all over world and if australia disappeared off the map they wouldn't even notice, and merc is trying to aim itself at the Posh crowd which is why they never ever have sales like other manufactures. Being a ford man i'm looking forward to it but otherwise its going to be sort of boring.

Hey Spitfire - You didn't mention the other classic bit of info about the movie. The end scene shows ol' Fred Astaire
lapping the Philip Island track as the last person on earth
driving a Ferrari!

Some years ago a movie called, On The Beach, about the aftermath of a nuclear war, was filmed in Melbourne. The actress Ava Gardner said at the time she could not think of a better city to make a movie about the end of the world. I could not have said it better myself.

>1. Perth is a piece of sh*t, chefs can’t cook a steak
>to save themselves, can’t repair pavements, (huge
>skills shortage due to nobody wanting to live there….)
>everything closes at 4pm, can’t cook a breakfast to
>save themselves (10 times in a row!)….need I go on?
>Two weeks of my life i will never get back!

SUPERCUJO QUOTE:

Where did you go for a steak? Fast Eddy’s? And the chefs in Perth don’t want cover everything with a Red Wine Jus. Agree on the roads. There is a skills shortage because heaps of people that live in Perth work up north in the mines. Everything closes at 4pm? Get it right, it is more like 5:30 pm. I bet you went to the same place for breakfast 10 time sin a row. More fool you.

I'm a food editor for a national magazine mate. Trust me. I know bad food when I see it. Perth restaurants/cafes lag every other national capital BY FAR.

And were you taking the piss when you said a 530pm close. Even 2 dollar shops work later than that here in Melbourne.

>2. I live in Albert Park. I love formula one. I want F1
>to f*ck off to sydney so that I can get my backyard
>back. They have already started closing off sections
>of Albert Park Reserve! Grrrrr

The Common Melbournian Nimby is amongst us.

>3. Perth is a sh*t hole.

Melbourne is the cloaca of Australia (Tasmania is the turd).

>4. Love sydney for a weekend trips. Wouldn’t want to
>live there.

Agreed

>5. Mercedes stands usually have their cars locked.
>Whats the point? Every dick and his dog can afford
>a C-class…is there a real need to lock it up?

Scared of sweaty bogans staining their white/biege leather seats. Who the hell thought white leather was a good idea in a car?

Where did you go for a steak? Fast Eddy’s? And the chefs in Perth don’t want cover everything with a Red Wine Jus. Agree on the roads.
Come on apart from the harbour what does Sydney have. I have many friends up their in monterey and Gymea, Sutherland and Cronulla and they are the first to admit Melbourne has more to offer than Sydney. Oh and as a former International tennis council tennis umpire who has travelled world wide to tennis tournaments know and have heard of Melbourne just as much as Sydney. Its just Sydneysiders inflated ego that makes them think they are more well known. As in planning wise, Melbourne is leaps and bounds ahead of Sydney. Have you even bothered to see and take notice of Melbourne? Melbourne is in blocks, it is a proper square grid apart from the new docklands harbour precinct whick is even now becoming part of a expanded grid. You can get public transport at regular 8 minute intervals per route which means ever 3 to 4 minutes unless a delay occurs. All of the one way streets in Sydney are a pain also. In relation to Perth I like their bus system and train system but it will never be able to be compared to Melbourne unless they have one major explosion in population. Its because of Melbournes livability that is the reason why Melbourne is increasing at a more rapid rate than anyway else in australia and is said to overtake their population in around 20 years. Melbourne is first with everything, Olympics, 1st Capital of Australia with Parliament, best attendances at every sporting event including non victorian sports like rugby etc. Anyone who bags Melbourne which has won the worlds most livable city a number of times while no other state has gone close are just jealous. There is a saying there are those who live in Melbourne Victoria and those who wished they did. we have the goldfields, the best surf beaches (Bells Beach). I could go on but my finger needs a break.

Yes but they ar bringing out a C Class DTM car and luanching it at Bathurst over 4 days.

Still better than having all the BMW's locked @ the show, but you can climb all over a S Class. need to ask BMW to open the cars @ the motorshow. pretentious
