Ariel Atom Mugen released as 10th anniversary special

By Brett Davis |

Ariel has released yet another version of the ultimate driving extreme machine, introducing the Ariel Atom Mugen. It’s faster and quicker than the already-ballistic standard Atom and it’s more exclusive.

The Ariel Atom Mugen features a tuned version of the standard Honda K20Z Type R engine, meaning power is now up to 201kW – an increase of around 18kW. It still features the same Ariel-esque stripped-out philosophy. Using a lightweight tubular chassis, no doors and no windows, it’s said to be even quicker than the standard car in acceleration and around a circuit.

Since Ariel is celebrating its 10th birthday, the Mugen model will be made in limited numbers. Just 10 of these bad boys will be made. It isn’t officially on sale yet but it will debut at the Autosport International Show held in Birmingham, UK, next month where full details and prices will be announced.

Vice President of Mugen Euro, Mr. Hiroki Toyoda, recently said about the engine,

“The Type R Honda is the best 2.0 liter normally aspirated engine available. We have put our experience and know how to release even more power from the engine and we’re delighted to see our engine in the Ariel Atom.”

WoW! Just the ideal mode of transport for the current weather in the Northern Hemisphere. Bet the Air conditioning works a treat.

I can just imagine the wind blowing through your hair, not to mention the snow and ice and slush picked up by the wheels and sprayed onto the occupants of the veicle.

Ah well, you have to make sacrifices if you want real performance. And as the article says, It is the ultimate driving experience. Before you die of hypothermia.
