As expected, an upcoming Ferrari of some sort will include Ferrari’s HY-KERS hybrid technology with regenerative braking. This video could be a clue as to what model will feature the environmentally-friendly system, which shows a Ferrari 599 prototype tested around a track.

It’s suspected Ferrari was testing the hybrid setup on this, next-generation, Ferrari 599 6.0-litre V12 around its Fiorano test track. The hybrid setup includes a 75kW electric motor that might be able to power the car alone during certain conditions, providing improved fuel efficiency.

No matter how well this thing will be in terms of being green though, there’s no denying the sound of that superb V12 engine. Reports say this model will also be the replacement for the Ferrari 599 and will be based on the 599 GTO. Featuring modern touches like LED headlights, a revised front bumper bar and a new setup at the rear incorporating four exhaust pipes, the new 599 will be more aggressive than the outgoing model.

Of course, none of these details are official yet so we’ll have to wait and see what Ferrari has up its sleeve. Another rumour getting around though is this next-generation 2012 599 could incorporate a four-wheel drive system, a first for the glamorous Italian marque. Only time will tell. In the meantime, enjoy the awesome sounds of the prototype in the video below thanks to Marchettino’s YouTube channel.

The world is coming to an end when Ferrari put electric motors into their cars…… Why worry that much about fuel consumption and hugging trees on a car that is sold on minimal numbers. This should be applied to cars that are sold on quantity, not quality

Lets just be thankful that they arent going the easy way out and yanking an existing mini car and sticking their badge on it(ala Aston Martin). And Why not use the extra instant torque of an E-motor.

Ferrari Enzo’s have been getting their ass kicked by EVs for years (search Youtube). It only makes sense that if they can’t beat them, they’d better join them.

(besides that, they NEED to go hybrid to pass EU fuel consumption laws)
