Cadillac CTS Coupe Concept - 2008 Detroit Auto Show
Cadillac CTS Coupe Concept - 2008 Detroit Auto Show - Day 2
The Cadillac CTS Coupe concept is Cadillac’s idea of taking on Mercedes and BMW. The brand has today also unveiled a high performance CTS-V variant which is powered by a 6.2-litre supercharged V8 generating around 410kW and and a staggering 745Nm torque.
“If we’re going to compete with the BMW 3 series and the Mercedes’ C class, we obviously need more than one body style,” said Bob Lutz, GM’s vice chairman of global product development. ” Up until now, we’ve competed with one, and that just won’t do it.“
Bob Lutz, the outspoken critic of the recent emission laws was asked if Cadillac was heading in the wrong direction with its supercharged V8 engines, Lutz said:
“At the height of the vegetarian phase, grocery stores still featured steak. We are a full-service grocery.”

The CTS is produced on GM’s “premium” sigma rear wheel drive platform whereas commodore is built off their global rear wheel drive platform which is more designed for general purpose use (ie to be used under a whole bunch of different things), so no there is no future monaro under there. If a monaro is built, it will be exactly the same as the last monaro, ie a 2 door commodore, however it will be built with the pontiac GTO in mind from the outset, ie more styling differentiation from the commodore. It will also most likely be built in the US due to holden’s current (lack of) production capacity
