The people at Forbes – famous for their ‘world’s richest people’ list – have put together a list of the ugliest new cars in the US for 2010.
Topping the list was the Acura ZDX, a bizarre crossover hatchback that has found just 3000 homes since going on sale in the US earlier this year.
The ZDX doesn’t quite pull off the low-riding coupe-wagon look like an Aston Martin Rapide, but apparently it drives and handles rather well.
The Honda Accord Crosstour is a similar beast, although at a lower price. Fortunately the hatchback wagon fad hasn’t caught on in Australia yet. Personally, I think it’s about as attractive as syphilis.
It wasn’t just an angle-hating fest though. Some of the curvier models also copped a whack from Forbes.
There was the Nissan Cube, which, despite the square name, is full of bubbly windows and lights.
The retro-style Chevrolet HHR wagon also got the nod, as did the Scion xB (sold locally as the Toyota Rukus).
And despite featuring a more traditional US design, the boxy Ford Flex and Honda Element both missed the mark with the judges.
One that took us by surprise, however, was the Mazda RX-8. The judges said Mazda went “a little bit far in their styling”, and believed the public had failed to connect with the car’s swoopy lines.
