2012 Audi TT GT4 concept unveiled in Shanghai

Audi has revealed a GT4 concept vehicle based on the Audi TT at Shanghai’s DTM over the weekend.

The TT GT4 concept has been developed by Quattro and Audi’s Technical Development and Production divisions, and the German manufacturer has confirmed a production version will expand its customer sport program in 2012.

The vehicle features a motorsport body with a rollover cage and a safety-optimised fuel tank, along with other sports modifications.

It is powered by a TFSI engine that delivers around 250kW, and features an S-tronic transmission with a differential lock.

The bonnet, doors and boot lid are made of carbon fibre-reinforced polymer (CFRP) and the windows are plastic. The suspension is a modified version of the production vehicle’s and features adjustable dampers, while the 18in alloys are especially lightweight. The front and rear aprons and the rear wing all stem from the TT RS production car.

Audi is targeting both the European and Asian markets and says the TT GT4 will offer customers “a base option for affordable motorsport”. It estimates the starting price will be around 120,000 euros ($165,000).
