2014 Porsche Cajun officially confirmed

Although it was already speculated, Porsche is indeed working on developing a small SUV to go up against the likes of BMW's X3 and the Audi Q5. It has also been officially announced it will be called the Porsche Cajun.

Previous reports claimed Porsche had confirmed production of the new model, but this was simply going off word from German car magazines. Now though, an official press release from the company itself provides definite confirmation.

Porsche seems to like naming its cars after elements usually found on the dinner table. First it was the Cayenne pepper off-roader, now the Cajun chicken model. It may not have anything to do with French rustic cuisine but it will offer the typical sporting agility and on-road performance we've come to expect from Porsche.

The press release doesn't say much other than the car will hit the market with the name 'Cajun'. It also says the model "will attract new and even younger customers to the premium brand". This means it could be available for a relatively cheap price, well, relative to the Porsche brand anyway.

Reports say the new model will hit the market by 2014 and come with a range of engines. The model is also expected to be based on the Audi Q5 platform.
