High-speed caravan chase abandoned, sleeping man cleared of drink-driving
South Australian police in Adelaide’s north were forced to abandon a high-speed pursuit of a stolen Holden Commodore that was towing a caravan when the chase became too dangerous.
The ABC reports police were forced to call off the early morning chase when the driver of the stolen car began swerving across the road, almost to the point of rolling the caravan.
Police are now tracking down the offenders, as well as the owners of the stolen vehicle. The car and caravan were both found abandoned in Elizabeth Downs.
Meanwhile, the Darwin Magistrates Court has cleared a man of a serious drink-driving charge because police could not prove the actual time of the offence.
Thirty-five-year-old Ilija Jacobs recorded a blood-alcohol reading of 0.15 when police tested him in May.
Interestingly, Mr Jacobs was found asleep at the wheel of his car, with the engine running. It reportedly took police five minutes to wake him.
Despite this, his lawyer argued successfully it could not be proved that Mr Jacobs was breath-tested within four hours of driving his car, which is the time maximum time limit in the Northern Territory.
