2012 Mazda5 MPV for the US details and price released

By Brett Davis |

Mazda US has released images and details of the upcoming 2012 model Mazda5 MPV. It will be launched during January 2011 with a price tag starting at $US19,990 ($20,360).

The car will be available in three different trim levels: Sport, Touring and Grand Touring. All of the variants will come equipped with a 2.5-litre 117kW four-cylinder engine. The Sport model will get a six-speed manual transmission while the upper variants will get a five-speed automatic.

Safety-wise, every Mazda5 MPV will come standard with ESP (electronic stability program), traction control, ABS and six airbags. It’ll also come with a handy tyre-pressure monitoring feature so tyre pressures are always kept in check; something many drivers forget about.

The entry-level Sport will get 16in wheels, keyless entry, an MP3 compatible stereo, power windows and mirrors and 50/50 split-folding three-row seating. The main features the top spec Grand Touring gets over the Sport includes a power sunroof, leather seats and sat-nav. It’ll be priced at $US24,670 ($25,120) while the mid-range Touring will be priced from $US21,990 ($22,400).

As far as a van goes, it doesn’t look too bad. It’s a shame Mazda Australia hasn’t any plans to introduce the model Down Under. Especially at these prices.

How could it possibly be anywhere near a 2012 model when it’s launced in January 2011?

    • Skeeter

I’m guessing it’s because the current model is already being sold as a 2011MY. And the facelift wasnt minor enough to call it a 11.5. So it’s being sold as a 2012 to differentiate it from the pre facelift models. Still ridiculous though….

that’s just how the Yanks do it, isn’t it. Release it in 2011 and it’s called a 2012 model.

  • Duckula

Why bother reporting this… A: its not being sold here, and B: Its not even an interesting car…..

    • Grant

It may not be interesting, but it is practical, isnt that what a vehicle supposed to be?

      • Duckula

LOL geez u must have the personality of a tree stump….

      • Al Juraj

A nice vehicle is supposed to be brought here. A diesel version is a welcome addition.

  • Shak

Does the rear look like a tarago or what?

    • Material_Guy

yeah it does but its less than half the price

An MPS 5 would be interesting….

    Zoom zoom.

These were the replacement for the Premacy. Itself a much underrated car with very practical features in it’s short time on the Aus market.

Many Australians would do well with a Mazda5, a ford S-Max or C-Max, however blindly stick to their Falcodores.
    .
Would love to see pricing like that on our Mazdas, Hondas etc.

I agree. Bring the Fors C-Max here. I was travelling in one a few days ago and It seemed comfortable enough. This was In germany and I was only in it for about 15-20 mins, but that is enough to have a look around. It is has a nice interior and the engine noise is not very intrusive. Bring the C-Max here, but I’m not sure about the s-max, I am yet to travel in one… If the C-Max was bought to Australia it would be probably be sold as part of the focus range though…

Sell it here with a turbo option :D

Even Mazda can not make a people mover look good. It’s a difficult task, how do you make what is essentially a bus attractive?

  • impatient1

So no plans for Mazda to introduce it, any reasons why?
I’m sure there is a market for it here. Well i would consider it ;)

The Mazda5 has been in Europe for years. In fact, it’s one of the few Mazdas there that actually sells well.
