Mitsubishi i-MiEV production hits 5000

Mitsubishi Motors has announced that Mitsubishi i-MiEV production has reached 5000 units at the Mizushima plant in Japan as of yesterday. Just one month after its introduction into the Japanese market in 2009, sales took off and up to 3000 sales have since been made to private buyers and businesses as of October 2010.

It is the first mass-produced EV car, the i-MiEV, and has been tested and trialled all around the world since its debut in June 2009. Mitsubishi then started to produce left-hand drive versions last month for European markets which brought sales higher again. Mitsubishi plans to expand its production for the US market at the start of the 2011 financial year.

Congratulations Mitsubishi, and thanks for paving the way for all EV technology development.
