Video: Audi TTS climbs Pikes Peak with no driver

By Brett Davis |

Remember the autonomous Audi TTS that was being filmed for a commercial when a camera helicopter crashed whilst ascending the famous Pikes Peak hillclimb course? Well, the footage has been released proving the car has made the climb. And look mum, no hands.

The Audi TTS uses two computers situated in the boot to calculate safety-related algorithms using a program by Oracle – Real Time Java, and another running vehicle dynamics algorithms. These two calculations enable the Audi to drive near the limits off handling on different surfaces and various speeds. A GPS system is also used which is capable of keeping the car within 2cm of the route.

It looks pretty cool and quite sci-fi. Check it out.
