Cadillac Provoq preview
January 9, 2008 by Matt Brogan
Concept cars usually spark a love-hate reaction with our readers, as do so-called green vehicles, and as for SUVs, well surely they’re enough to make some people’s veins pop. Well, how about mashing all three together?
Introducing the Cadillac Provoq, I mean it’s not even spelled right. Fortunately though for us car buffs, it’s not all bad. I’ll explain.
Provoq utilises drive gear similar to that of Honda’s FCX Clarity which is a hydrogen fuel cell and lithium-ion bettery that together produce an electrically powered vehicle driven through four individual motors at each wheel.
Not only does this mean the emissions are water vapour, but it also has four-wheel drive, can manage 160km/h and ranges up to 650km from a single tank – not all bad. It does however get a little silly thereafter.
You see the roof lining is made from soy fibre, great if you get hungry I suppose, the carpet is recycled polyester and jute (yes I had to look it up too) and manages perhaps only to saves its dignity in sharing styling cues with the Cadillac CTS.
Provoq will be on show at Detroit from this weekend. CarAdvice looks forward to bringing you all the news and latest pics directly.

whats jute?
Mitch, does your skill set include typing “jute” into Google, and pressing enter?
If it did, you’d know what it is.
touché
If they keep that technology and put it in something better looking (and more familiar materials) it’ll be a storm!
You can’t eat soy fibre…
If it looks like headlining and still smells like a new car (even though that is a byproduct of the plastics), what is wrong with using renewable materials?
The styling is pretty good. Doesn’t look as agy as the CTS though. The SUV proportions suit the sharp edges a bit better.
Looks like a Holdenwoo Captiva from the side.
MMMMM……soy!!! Whats the bet it comes in a colour called Latte.hehehe
Ford are dong a similar thing with the new Mustang, soy based foam seats!
I like the technology. Good to see the Americans finally getting in the game. Don’t like the Cadillac grill and lights but the rest looks quite good to me.
The soy reference was tongue in cheek, much like the rest of the article.
Its bum looks like the ford focus on the great American diet of McDonalds.
The front end looks like Herbie smacked in the face with a giant fry pan.
Its awesome!
At long last, a good-looking SUV. They’re thin on the ground. It looks production ready, with no apparent need to reduce wheel size, windscreen rake or any of the other things that shout CONCEPT CAR!!
And it makes the Toyota Klugger look 6 years out of date. It did anyway.
Really Matt……..cause its true about the Mustangs !!
Golfschwein…….you on the Red wine already hahaha….Good Looking!! Pass the Red Wine and Ill take another look!
Would anybody buy a car that was made from 100% recycled items or stuff? For ex. Would you buy a new falcon or commy made out of 100% recycled items and pay 34k for it or would you buy a new commy or falcon that is made out of new materials not out of soy, recycled things etc. and pay 34k?
Bav Mis, the house is DRY. Not happy.
Why honey aren’t you on the new Forum??????
