Holden Commodore SS Camaro ute

By Brett Davis |

Ever wanted a new Camaro but still needed a ute to carry things? An LS1 forum member spotted this sitting outside Nashville, looking like it came straight from a paint shop. It’s a VE SS ute with a Camaro front end converted onto it.

Love it or loathe it, apparently this has been a conversion just waiting to happen. The Holden Commodore shares a similar package to the American Chevrolet Camaro, using a similar engine and offering the same sort of muscle car character.

The obvious difference on the new front end is that it is much more aggressive than the Commodore design. We’re not sure though. It looks a bit confused. What do you think?

I wonder if this is just a case of bolt on panels , if it is id say there’s going to be lots “commaro’s” on the road soon

    • JR

of is it a chevy “el commino” lol

  • Baddass

Considering most SS owners worth their 22-inchers already have Chevy badges on their Commodore, this would seem a logical choice. And fully sick.

  • Roadtard

    Two-tone colour scheme is wrong!

  • werdna

    the ULTIMATE chev badge!

  • DGS

Is this aftermarket or is GM about to relaunch the Commodore (as a Chev this time) in the US?

If they are, good luck to them! It would be a welcome development for the workers at Holden. However if too successful expect production to be moved to the US.

  • Howdog

The lines dont match so they have tried to hide it with the two tone.

Agree that it will be a regular feature in the Shire before you can say ‘southern cross tattoo’.

A Down market Chevy badge on a Holden for the Bogans amongst us….Yes fully Sick, I am vomiting now.

  • Wayne Kerr

    Utes are so … meh.

  • tommo617

Wow, the humble aussie ute finally reaches its pinnacle of evolution in the ultimate redneck’s car – a new El Camino!

Earl Hickey wants the phone number of the guy who made this one!

  • Andrew M

One the Camaro ute fails, they will try and sell off the left over parts here as a special edition Commie ute.

    Pontiac all over again.

I cant make judgement on looks, that photo is terrible, half the ute blends into the building. It almost looks like a Convertable at first glance

    Dumber meets dumber

  • MisterMister

The panels are not directly interchangable. The front bumper of the VE Commodore does not join along a vertical line as seen in the photo, but rather a horizontal one. This means the person had to cut into the metal to get the front bumper to fit. This means the old VE front will NOT be able to be put back on!

    • Holden Dealer

They only have to cut the side panels not the body.

  • Hector

give the bogans more excuses to wear chevrolet badges on the front of their holden utes

    “but it’s a chevrolet engine!!!”

“but a chevrolet ute does actually exist!!!”

    • RS5 on order

      does now lol

  • Mr Brooksy

Umm, its unique I’ll give it that! There’s no way it’ll be missed on the road.

Hat off to the guy who obviously forked out some serious coin for a now, one of a kind, Commyaro ute.

But I won’t be doing a Mustang front conversion to my Falcon.

    • Lox

There’s a mustang front Falcon in progress at the moment on the ford australia forums.

  • MisterMister

If this is taken in Australia then why is there a 7 digit phone number on the shop window? And what looks like a US style pickup truck in the background on the right. Don’t know.. hard to tell.

    • Bob

NASHVILLE motors… they sell French cars, right?

  • Dennis

Add a 9 to the number in the photo. Mr Lugnut comes up

  • Dave S

love to see more of this car. Looks great, very creative now it is up to the Ford guys to graft a Mustang nose on a FG ute.

  • Dave S

I will have mine in Bumblebee yellow.

  • AussieHolden

I actually like it. Not too keen on the paint though.

  • michael

I think it looks good, alot better than the Pontiac nosed utes getting around, or the latest HSVs. The Camaro conversion hasnt had an offical name yet and costs $9000.00 using genuine GM panels, its only bracketry that has been engineered.

  • morgan

    where can i get 1?

  • Alex young

That’s different and as every1 wants to hav the latest and greatest these prob will get popular if it’s not2 expensive to convert..

Gee wizzz Holden’s sure have many variants of the same chassis platform well done Aussie engineering

  • Back2clear

seen in Nashville with a Vic plate… I think not
