Drove the 2008 V50 T5 to the great dividing range. Adaptive bi-xenon lights were a treat at night. T5 engine is competent but bloody thirsty when pressed hard (16.5L/100km 95RON Unleaded). Although Volvo shook off their stodgy image over a decade ago with cars like the 850 it will be many years to come before owners are treated with some level of dignity.

I am looking at the V50, have driven it, liked it. Only I cannot find any crash test results on it.Has it been independently tested? Like into a wall.

Dear All,

I own a V50 T5 and it has been the best purchase of automobile. Safety is legendary and the sports package (T5) that comes with it is superb.

I would agree with Rich that Impreza owners tend to be ’showy’ but I have on few occasions out-driven them flat-out. ‘Beaten’ is another better word :) I have also out-driven other V50 T5 owners whom I guess is ‘trying’ out their T5s. I believe it is more towards skill and knowledge of how to drive fast and safe (defensive driving). Mine is a stock on the German Eibach springs. Next mod will be on adjustables and some make-up via Heico products.

The V50 T5 is not all shout all the way like other competitors but it shouts in a very subtle and firm manner than onlookers or the out-drivens will look at her more than twice- “Umm did not expect that” and “Wow” with a gulp of self-esteem going down their throat.

I encouraged my wife to buy an 850 T5 after she was hit and injured in her small car (it offered no protection at all). She loves her Turbo Charged Volvo and proudly tells everyone that ‘Brocky drove one’!! I absolutely love driving the beast – when she lets me. It is a superb motor vehicle, built like a brick outhouse and the best bang for the buck I’ve come across. Who’d've tought – I’ve become a bloody Volvo driver and proud of it.

hi there, i’m 20 and from the UK, most of my friends drive corsa’s or saxo’s and i drive myself.. we live near the m62 which goes to manchester so we are often cruisin on there, abit over the speed limit you could say, last month we was drivin up there and a subaru impresi on a 1994 plate which was a turbo decided to start driving with us, been all cocky like subaru drivers are he was trying to race with me, yes i was driving a volvo 850 (2.3 turbo) i can safely say he was gob smacked by the power of the 850, i believe its got about 230 hp and it goes like a rocket, u cannot beat a volvo and i know there a box on wheels, but my box on wheels beat a impreza, amazing cars get one!
