Holden VE Commodore recalled again
January 8, 2008 by Matt Brogan
The VE Commodore and WM Statesman series have again being recalled this morning following yesterday’s announcement of it being Australia’s top selling car.
Due to the possibility of an engine bay fire from a faulty fuel line, 86,000 V6 models will be recalled to address the issue. Holden spokesperson John Lindsay said the fault was due to one of the fuel lines in the engine bay having the potential to rub on the clip of an adjacent hose, which over a period of time had the potential to result in a leak.
So far this issue has only effected 20 cars though is not limited to Australian vehicles with some export vehicles also being recalled in New Zealand, Brazil and the Middle East. Fortunately the highly lucrative Pontiac G8 has not been affected with the issue affecting V6 models only.
This is the second such recall for Holden on the VE and WM series with the V8 models being recalled for a similar condition some months ago.
Anyone owning a VE or WM series Holden will be contacted forthwith.

I always thought u where a smart man oz LOL, good to no more people r flyin the ford flag high, sticken it to the other kind LOL
Well, TP, I stand by my “opinion”. I can’t beleive I just agreed with you on another post then I see the stuff you wrote on this one.
I have that Top Gear episode sitting on my hard drive from last Monday (my bro filled me in on its content) haven’t had the chance to watch it. Took it way north he said. I will watch it when I get the chance.
I stand by “my” not liking the Hilux. My brother owns a 2000 2.7L petrol hilux. It’s lucky to get 450kms to a tank. It is CRAP in the bush. We always get left behind by our mates in their patrols and cruisers. Suspension is FAR too hard, we’re on 3 wheels most of the time. AND it busted a belt thousands of kms before it was due for replacement.
BTW, he wants to sell it for an RTV ute because we’re now more into dirt bike enduros, blue light rallys, etc so he just needs a good ute that can handle a few rough tracks. So if you want a cheap Hilux in good condition, here’s your chance.
So I’m not just bagging it for the sake of it Toyota Paul. It is a fine commercial hack, but substandard for real bushbashing and not that nice on the road either. That’s “why” I don’t think much of the Hilux.
BTW Ford Australia don’t “make” a proper 4WD for our conditions, which is a pity.
NOW IM NOT VERY WRONG KNOW YOUR FACTS AND TAKE THEM!!! Top Gear did a whole thing on the Hilux, they voted it the worlds toughtest vehicle. The recent episode in the snow further supported this as it battled -35 degrees and was absolutely smashed about by their driving. Obviously forgetting their little tests for it which is just for show, the fact that they thought it had this reputation and warranted an episode (which connects with their audience who also know about its reputation) is enough. Do you think they even know about the Falcon/Commodore ute or more to the point, think its tough? HIGHLY DOUBTFUL. So yes I find it unsual that someone would be against the Corolla, the worlds most popular car, and the hilux, worlds toughest ute.

I never said anything against Hiluxs toughness, aside from the built it has never failed him/us. And I will watch that episode. As for Corolla, I just plain don’t like them, same as you don’t like anything Holden or Ford TP.
That means the Hilux is tougher than a semi trailer? I doubt it.
Ford do have tougher vechiles than a Hilux – the F-SERIES!
Oops “built” was supposed to be “belt”.
You seem to think I’m slagging off Toyota for the fun of it. As I said, our mates in the Patrols and “Cruisers” flog us. Mate’s Turbo-Diesel Cruiser is a fantastic bushbasher, and pretty civilised on the road. Hilux is not. It is a tradies work hack and nothing more.
I do appreciate certain Toyota’s, but you hate anything blue oval or red lion.
No I dont hate everything Ford, Ive mentioned I like a few of their cars… even their V8s I have said are better then the Holdens pushrods. But facts are facts and Toyota does provide better vehicles overall. When I look for a new car (
OK part of my post was cut off… what I said at end is when I look for new car in near future I will be looking at all options and indeed no cars Toyota offers atm particularlly appeal to my needs.
im with ya watto,
i thought we were starting to be civilised with TP and agree on stuff on the other page then he comes out with this rubbish.
TP,
you are like a woman, not happy unless you are whinging or we are not happy.
the way i find the 2 vehicles in question (hilux and rolla) as overrated is due to them being far from class leaders……..simple.
i dont know what you are ranting on about in terms of local industry, but as i said cars will not become $5-10k cheaper overnight if the taxes lowered.
Toyota Paul, why do you allways come just to start an argument?
About Top Gear saying the Hilux being the toughest vehicle in the world…That is a figure of speech. Just because of a test doesn’t mean it’s really is toughest in the world. If it realy is, that means it has to be tougher than a semi trailer.
But what has gottin’ into you? You said….
“And as for hating Ford so much, I think if you look hard enough you will find positive comments made by me about Fords.”…
…Now you realy have a grudge againts them. Maybe you need to leave untill you can show some respect to things which arn’t your most loved, because there is a whole world out there you know!
If that’s the case, fair enough. What are you looking at atm?
Just as a joke, I think toughest vehicle would be more like those 250ton mining trucks(fit a dozen cars in the tray easy), or a train, lol.
Paul, it looks like you are learning now, so please keep it that way and no immature “Ford fairies” arguments. We will still like our Commodores and Falcons because we are proud of Australia’s Highest motorsport category and let us, Advance Australia fair. LOL
ha ha ha this is getting like show and tell….
the reason i love my falcon is no one makes something that suits me more. you have the comfort and pure pulling power all mashed together with a bit of style
QUOTE Toyota Paul=”No I dont hate everything Ford, Ive mentioned I like a few of their cars… even their V8s I have said are better then the Holdens pushrods. But facts are facts and Toyota does provide better vehicles overall.”
Yes I agree with that TP. I can’t remember which blog but I said Holden has better V8s and Fords have better 6’s. You said in regards to Holdens V8 something to the effect of “better numbers maybe, but unsophisticated engine” or “not better engine”… well something like that.
I agree wholeheartedly there. It’s funny how Chev’s old 2 valves/cylnder push-rod V8 is better than Ford’s modern 4 valve quad-cam V8 (although smaller capacity). And on the 6 pot side Ford’s inline 6 craps on Holdens Alloytech V6. Strange.
I won’t get into the taxes, and all that stuff. Know nothing about it.
Same here Andrew.M. Suits me down to the ground. I loved my Cortina’s when I was young, always wanted a larger car tho.
Paul, remember those days when you spruked on about Toyota over a servey and wrecked at least 3 Toyota posts by arguing then you got banned? …Oh the good old days!
oh yes OZ, those were the same old days where i was called a liar for quoting TP as saying “toyotas have bullet proof reliability”, even though i found those exact words from Paul and linked them
Yeah, reliability days. When he said he will find a comment to spite me! …Never happed
A lot of people has some sort of issues with all cars no matter where are they made…just check out ihatemycar dot com dot au
This is true…at ihatemycar.com.au plenty of people gave opinions on cars made in Japan and not all positive…so recalls means nothing as even best cars can get recalled for any reason.
Over the past few years holden has had the most recalls of any manufacturer-eg my last count was holden 68 to fords 26.
Certain areas of the media seem to think it is acceptable, but its not.
Let’s face it, no car is perfect. One will always have a defect on it. The issue here now is the consistency of defects. The Japs would have a handful of bad apples in the barrel, which is acceptable, but it seems that Holden has a lot of them all the time.
But why should they care? Australia, unfortunately, made the Commodore last month’s bestseller again.
Hi I am thinking of buying a 60th annaversary ve omega or a SV6. Do this years VE’s have the same problems as the earlier models or have they been fixed.
Thanks.
